Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Lorenzo Bongiovanni. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Hi Lorenzo, thanks for joining us today. We’d love to go back in time and hear the story of how you came up with the name of your brand?
Mr. Flood’s Party is named after the historic bar in Ann Arbor, Michigan. It was an established student [hippie] hangout with live music 7 nights a week — a wild place. My Grandpa Larry was a prolific restaurant owner and entrepreneur in the Metro Detroit area. In the 80s he bought Flood’s from the original owner, Ned Duke. Mr. Flood’s Party is an homage to my family of restaurateurs. Flood’s exists because of their creativity, tireless effort, and perseverance throughout the years.

Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
Mr. Flood’s Party is a creative project I started in March 2023. I was on a flight back to New York from Mexico City, fresh off a week of exploring, eating, and snapping photos. I felt like I was at my inspirational brim. So I opened up my journal and I wrote — the entire way home.
I started channeling that energy and emotion into Instagram. I had lots of photos to share, but I also had a lot to say. I grew up around the restaurant business, and my perspectives on food and dining really started to flow. That’s what I started posting: crisp photography paired with off-the-cuff commentary on the restaurants, bars, and cafes I love.
In September 2024 I launched my Substack, which felt like a natural evolution of Flood’s. My writing can breathe a little outside the confines of an IG caption. And I feel like I can lean into my storytelling. I really enjoy the platform and have made some amazing connections through it.
In addition to my Instagram and Substack, I also support restaurants and bars with creative consulting. Photo shoots, copywriting, website design, menu engineering, playlist curation, and more. Anything that has to do with the look and feel of a concept — I can support.
I’m most proud of my ability to recognize and articulate great ambiance — how a place makes you feel. Lighting, temperature, music — it all feeds into the greater experience. Those are the details that matter most to me.

Where do you think you get most of your clients from?
Sharing my truest, most authentic voice online has led to some amazing connections and opportunities for me. I always write with honesty and honor who I am and how I think. People I meet for the first time often say it feels like they’ve known me for years. That’s amazing to hear. It’s opened up so many doors — intros to new clients, and new friends. I’ll also say — if you see someone doing something that speaks to you, send them a message. Do it without expectation of a response or action. Just share a compliment and appreciation anytime you feel it.

What do you find most rewarding about being a creative?
Having an idea in your head, thinking about it as you fall asleep, and then… turning it into something tangible. It’s a powerful realization that I have so much creativity within me. You can look back on this portfolio of all your ideas coming to life and see how much you’ve grown.
