We were lucky to catch up with Lorenz Plourde recently and have shared our conversation below.
Lorenz, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. Let’s kick things off with your mission – what is it and what’s the story behind why it’s your mission?
My mission is deeply rooted in the belief that art should be accessible to everyone. Through my work as a videographer with the local art channel, I aim to highlight the incredible talent and creativity of local artists, demonstrating to viewers the richness and diversity of original art in our community. I see my role as a bridge between the world of artists and the general public. There are more non-artists than artists out there, and many people may not realize just how accessible and enriching engaging with local art can be. By presenting these artists and their work in a compelling, visual format, I hope to open up new perspectives for viewers, encouraging them to explore and appreciate the vibrant art scene that surrounds us.

Lorenz, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
I’ve always been captivated by the power of visual storytelling, which led me into the world of videography. Initially, my interest was sparked by a desire to capture the beauty and essence of everyday moments, but over time, this evolved into a focused passion for showcasing the vibrant art scene in my local community.
I run a YouTube channel called @processartdiscovery, dedicated to promoting local artists through carefully crafted videos that highlight their work and processes. My services range from creating engaging promotional videos for artists to documenting art exhibitions and interviewing artists to delve deeper into their creative minds.
The main problem I address is visibility. Many talented artists struggle to reach a wider audience or connect effectively with potential buyers. By providing a platform and crafting compelling narratives around their work, I help bridge this gap, enhancing their exposure and engagement.
What sets me apart is my commitment to authenticity and my dedication to the arts. Unlike broader commercial videography, my focus is on the artistic value and story behind each piece, which resonates deeply with both artists and art enthusiasts. I’m not just about capturing images; I’m about capturing the essence of the creative spirit.
I’m most proud of the community we’ve built through the channel. It’s more than just a collection of art videos; it’s a thriving hub where artists connect, collaborate, and inspire one another. It’s also a place where non-artists can discover the joy and depth of local art, making it more accessible and appreciated.
For potential clients, followers, and fans, I want you to know that @processartdiscovery is a passion project born from a love of art and community. Every video is crafted with the utmost respect for the artistic process and aimed at fostering a deeper understanding and appreciation of art in our daily lives. Whether you’re an artist looking to expand your reach or an art lover eager to explore new talents, this channel is for you.

Is there something you think non-creatives will struggle to understand about your journey as a creative? Maybe you can provide some insight – you never know who might benefit from the enlightenment.
One aspect of the creative journey that might perplex non-creatives is the non-linear nature of artistic progress. Unlike many fields where progress and success are measured in clear, quantifiable terms, the path of a creative—be it in videography, painting, or any other form of art—is often winding and fraught with periods of doubt, experimentation, and even failure.
As a videographer working closely with artists, I’ve seen firsthand that breakthroughs often come from what initially seems like a setback. An artist might spend days or even weeks on a piece only to decide it doesn’t express what they intended, or I might shoot hours of footage and then realize it doesn’t convey the story authentically. In both cases, these aren’t failures; they are integral parts of the creative process. They teach us what doesn’t work, which is just as important as finding out what does.
This can be hard to grasp for those accustomed to more traditional professions, where a setback might mean a loss of time or resources and is often seen negatively. In the creative world, however, such ‘setbacks’ can be crucial learning points that propel a project or artist forward in unexpected and beneficial ways.
I hope this sheds some light on the resilience and openness required in the creative fields. Embracing uncertainty and learning from what might initially seem like mistakes are key aspects that fuel our artistic growth and innovation. For anyone embarking on or supporting someone on a creative path, understanding and appreciating this unpredictability can make the journey much more rewarding.

Where do you think you get most of your clients from?
The most powerful source of new clients for me has undoubtedly been word of mouth, particularly within the tight-knit community of artists. In the world of art and videography, trust and personal recommendation carry a lot of weight. Artists talk to each other, share their experiences, and recommend services that they find genuinely valuable and empathetic to their needs.
When an artist feels that their vision has been understood and beautifully captured on video, they’re likely to share that positive experience with fellow artists. This kind of endorsement is invaluable because it comes with a built-in trust factor that can’t be achieved through traditional advertising. Each project I undertake is not just about delivering a service but about building a relationship and becoming a part of the artist’s extended creative community. This approach has naturally led to referrals and has been instrumental in helping me connect with new clients who are looking for a videographer who truly understands the artistic sensibility.
