We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Lorena Davila. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Lorena below.
Lorena, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today Naming anything – including a business – is so hard. Right? What’s the story behind how you came up with the name of your brand?
Growing up I was the oldest girl out of 6 sisters and most of my little sisters would call me Nena short for Lorena, and my business consists of candy and sweets. So I decided to name my business Nenas Sweetcreations

Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
Hi my name is Lorena Davila I was born and raised in Southern California. I’m married and have 3 kids,my oldest just turned 17yrs young on Valentine’s Day, I was a young mother had him at age 18. When my son turned a yr old we noticed he begin to have seizure spasms which as he got older he got a few different types of seizures, when he turned 3yrs old he was diagnosed with Autism, he’s non verbal and about 4yrs ago he was diagnosed with a seizure disorder called LGS he’s been through so much, I call him my warrior!
My husband always worked and provided for us and I wanted to help out ,cause with one income it wasn’t enough. I would work but with my sons condition I would sometimes have to leave my work. So it was hard to stay consistent at work so I decided to stay at home and find ways to make money being a stay at home mom, and be able to help my husband out with bills. I started couponing and selling laundry detergent, dish soap etc. It was good until couponing became a big competition in our little town,so eventually I stopped.
I then decided to start making chocolate treats for special events like chocolate covered Oreos, cake pops and chocolate covered strawberry arrangements, for Mothers Day and Valentines Day. I would get a lot of customers and was kept busy.
I did that for a couple years.
It felt good to be able to stay home with my boys at that time I had 2, my oldest and middle child, and still be able to make some money to help my husband with bills and whatever we needed.
I was always finding ways to make extra cash and I seen on instagram chamoy candy were becoming popular, so I decided to jump on the trend and make my own.
It took me about 2-3 weeks to get my recipe down,my family were my taste testers.
I then started making chamoy candy and my customers were loving them, i decided to write to a few influencers on instagram to try to get them to try my candy and post them so I can get noticed. None really replied lol except for Mayeli Alonso she replied and said of course send me some. I sent her a package and she loved the candy she posted me on her instagram story and my business instagram page blew up with followers will forever be grateful for her. She pushed me to start my online store, I was scared at first but I took the leap of faith and made an online store. Had soo many orders coming in, we were really blessed. When Covid hit it was even crazier, of course eventually everything opened back up and our sales declined. I had to find something different that was in and that was catering snack bars, mini pancakes, corn in a cup etc. We bought our first catering cart and started catering events, my sisters and niece help me and so far we been really busy with events. We still make chamoy candies and also cater special events I don’t think I’ll ever stop selling my chamoy candy, my followers enjoy them and ask about them till this day. We are also working on opening our small store front and we are super excited to see where this takes us, I’m so grateful to my followers that have always supported everything I do🙏🏽. To my husband for always supporting me and being my right hand, it’s been a journey for sure no one sees the tears, the hard work us small business owners go through but quitting isn’t an option, I look at my son and see how strong he is and that gives me strength, even on days where I’m want to throw in the towel, I know my mission has a purpose and I’ll keep pushing my small business.
That’s how Nenas Sweetcreations was created thank you for taking the time to read my story.

Let’s talk about resilience next – do you have a story you can share with us?
My son for sure at such a young age he’s gone through so much cause of his medical condition, I look up to him and see how strong he is. Makes me work harder to be able to make it one day and give him everything I can. Owning a small business comes with a lot of ups and downs but when I’m feeling down my son comes to mind he’s definitely my strength.

What else should we know about how you took your side hustle and scaled it up into what it is today?
My business went from making chocolate dipped treats to catering private events and now opening up our store front. Having no choice but to work from home to be able to be with my son that has a medical condition and still being able to help my husband with some type of income. My small business has grown and because of my costumers loyalty and our hard work, I’m able to make this my full time job and not to mention be at home with my kiddos.
