We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Loreal Lacey a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Loreal, thanks for joining us today. What’s the backstory behind how you came up with the idea for your business?
With almost 10 years in the death care industry , 7 as a Licensed Funeral Director I’ve served and encountered countless families who had loss a loved one without a clue of where they would get the funds for a funeral. Families would call on the community, church, friends and family to help cover the cost and after having to delay services or discount services so that they’re affordable, I decided that I had had enough . Pre arrangements and life insurance are both ways to guarantee that at the time of your passing your family will have the necessary financial security to celebrate your life . Yet so many families would say they couldn’t afford it . Your car is insured, your home is insured, why not insure your life ? I decided I wanted to share the information I knew and help families get out of the mindset that your life wasn’t worth securing. I then made it my mission to educate and give back to the communities I served to prevent as many fish fry’s and go funds me’s as possible. Stepping out on faith , I created Finally By Faith Nonprofit Organization.
Loreal, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
I’m Loreal Lacey .Wife , Mother and by trade a Licensed Funeral Director and Pre Need Specialist. Originally from Chicago, Illinois I moved to Houston, Texas to attend Mortuary School which I completed in 2018. Finally By Faith is a Non Profit Organization that focuses on five key components: Financial Literacy, Life Insurance, Pre Arrangements, Grief Support and Community Service. I meet people at one of the worse times of their lives . I always strive to service families with dignity and patience. Make the families I serve feel more than just another case or a check , but a human being who’s grieving who wants to be handled with care , spoken to with compassion or simply to need a hug. After assisting so many families with financial difficulties and getting them through and hearing the reviews on how families said I made the process seamless and made them feel , I knew that families trusted me and would listen on how important it was securing finances for the next generation.
Any stories or insights that might help us understand how you’ve built such a strong reputation?
I believe what helped me build my reputation with my families is that I’m transparent. I won’t advise or put a family I’m serving rather it’s At need (loss of a loved one ) or Pre Need (before a loss) in a situation or package or service I wouldn’t offer to my mother or family . I do exactly what I say I will . If I say I’m going to call , show up or follow up I do just that . If I’m out of the office I make the family aware of my absence so they don’t feel ignored. People always remember how you make them feel .
Let’s talk about resilience next – do you have a story you can share with us?
Being a Non Profit your dependent on donations and the hearts of those who want to support in todays economy. The need for help within our communities is in great demand wanting to help with zero funds in a new business leaves you feeling hopeless at time. With the support of my social media followers, bookclub community and other networks within the community I’ve been able to provide food , snacks and clothes to over 1500 families in just a six month period . Without God and support from the same communities I’m pouring back into .
