We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Lora Humphrey a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, Lora thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. We’d love to hear the backstory behind a risk you’ve taken – whether big or small, walk us through what it was like and how it ultimately turned out.
I grew up in a small town in Georgia where there was not a lot of open discussion around alternative spiritual practices and behaviors. I was known as the “creative” child and I remember feeling like I stood out, and not always in a good way. My family decided to move to Florida when I was eleven years old and by the time I reached my teens I was introduced to more open and free-thinking concepts and began exploring more spiritual ideas and practices. As I entered my early twenties, I was beginning to find a stronger identity with my spiritual awareness and capabilities, such as communicating with ghosts and exploring past-lives, however I was constantly trying to hide it in order to fit in. Eventually it became to much for me to try and hide my abilities and perceptions from the world. I had been working the same job for eight years and took a leap of faith to quit and pursue my hypnosis and tarot reading practice full time. It was one of the scariest things I had ever done up to that point because it meant leaving behind the comfort and security of a lifestyle I had built up that felt socially acceptable. I was leaving it all behind to follow a path that isn’t considered mainstream, but I’ve been able to do this work for the last 5 years and have had countless opportunities to help others change their lives in order to be their most authentic, joyful selves, and that has definitely made the risk worth it.
Lora, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
I am a Clairvoyant, Medium, & Certified Hypnotist. My clairvoyant and mediumship abilities allow me to receive messages from spiritual energy as images. This often relates to me being able to see spirits as well as seeing other peoples’ past-lives. Through my hypnosis practice I am able to help my clients see their own past-lives for themselves as well as holistically find what their own spirit intended to accomplish in this lifetime. Often we carry wounds from past incarnations that need help integrating so that we can freely experience this life in the fullest ways.
My job, whether its through hypnosis or my psychic work, is to help others discover more about themselves so that they know exactly why they do what they do, what drives them, and know what steps to take in order to live a life in alignment with their highest good.
Society often has us conform to identities that are not authentic to ourselves. This pushes us to be confused and unclear of our emotions and feel further uncertain about what we should or shouldn’t be doing in our lives. I connect with my clients to discern what they have been conditioned to believe about themselves and then process how to move forward with honoring their authentic feelings to achieve greater fulfillment in their lives.
I have had the opportunity to work with many talented psychics and energy workers over the years and I am always amazed that even when we do similar work, we each resonate with individuals so differently. Being in tune with energy allows me to navigate my clients in a way that’s best for them. That may mean that I introduce them to another gifted energy worker other than myself simply because I feel that their energies match better or perhaps they still have some other healing to navigate before they are ready to deep-dive into my work. My work requires a openness and a readiness to explore more vulnerable emotions and I am always looking for the signs that my client is ready to receive the type of healing and awareness I have to offer.
I simply want to show the world that their are always alternatives ways of understanding our human experiences and perceptions of reality. There are many paths to explore in this lifetime and I would love for all people to have a willingness to seek out more experiences that help them expand and evolve.
What’s been the most effective strategy for growing your clientele?
I try to be as authentic and compassionate as possible with everyone who discovers me. I pop up at events all throughout the Tampa Bay area offering tarot readings and I never know exactly who is going to sit with me for a reading. Regardless of who I’m interacting with, I am reading their energy to connect with them in a way that allows them to feel seen, feel heard, and feel genuine connection. People seem to be starved of real connection and when I am able to identify what they’re experiencing at this point in their lives, they light up.
Through this process of connection I have made many regular clients and they spread the word to their friends and colleagues. My work brings forward many referrals but I love reaching new people at events even if it’s just a one time reading. I trust that I’ve made the impact that was intended.
Are there any books, videos or other content that you feel have meaningfully impacted your thinking?
There are many spiritual teachers, resources, and books that have influenced my work. For those interested in exploring past-life regression definitely check out “Soul Explorer” by Patricia McGivern. McGivern is the hypnotist that got me into hypnosis and her work is profound. I would also recommend “Many Lives Many Masters” by Dr. Brian Weiss, or any other of his numerous books. They are all fantastic reads that help to explain the significance and impact past-life regression can have to help people heal.
