We recently connected with Lor Complex and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Lor Complex, thanks for joining us today. Are you happier as a creative? Do you sometimes think about what it would be like to just have a regular job? Can you talk to us about how you think through these emotions?
The funny thing is, I do still have a regular job. lol, like, bills- long story short. but besides that, I absolutely love being Art and I love being able to create at any given moment. I work from home, currently, so it allows me to continue to create even though I’m technically on the clock. I wouldn’t trade my talents for the worlddd, I promise. I see myself far, far away from this 9to5 life and thriving in my passion projects, making and sustaining a living off the things I love to do most. I see myself making at least one million dollars each month solely by being myself and by doing the things I enjoy.
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
I got into the music industry literally just by having fun. when I was 15 I had a friend that was really creative and she and I would write raps to perform with one another. it was really the praise I would always receive after playing around that made me say, yeah, no. I could really be getting paid big money for this. so, by 16 I was recording myself, making my first tracks and beats and really just putting myself out there.
over the years I’ve been able to put out 4 albums, two singles and 4 videos. I’m beyond happy to say this year I’ve finally been able to add to my collection of art. I was able to drop a music video for “FTN,” a track that was on my last album “DEMOTAPE.” anddd, I’m even happier to announce that “BBO (BAD BITCHES ONLY)” is finally coming out this year as well. BBO is an album that’s been ready since 2021, but life literally hit me like a ton of bricks so I had to sit on it and really sit on music until like, March this year. so, I’m just really excited to be able to drop new music and visuals. 2 singles are also coming out really, really soon, “God’s Grace” and “Better.” I also wrote a self-love guide in 2021 to help teach people ways to remain at peace and happy throughout their circumstances. it’s really just the methods I take daily to keep myself sane and upbeat. I really love being able to help someone gain a bit of tranquility in this chaotic world.
what sets me apart from others is my drive and my aura. I’m dedicated to my craft and my peace of mind. I move carefully and I’m confident. I’m definitely your favorite rapper’s favorite rapper.
I’m most proud of how far I’ve come for sure. I’m 28 years old now. so, for 12 years I’ve held this goal in my mind to get paid and make a living off my rap music and I just love that I’ve grown so much in this journey. I’ve learned so much and I’m having so much fun. I’m literally living out my dreams, 16 year old me would be so proud. lol, but yeah, I’m so proud of me and how I see my fanbase continuing to grow and my views and streams continuously increasing it’s so cool to see. but, the main things I want my fans to know about me is that no mater what, I’m going to always take the time to pause and reflect so I can better know myself, love myself and be myself. at the end of the day, I want my fans to learn how to truly know themselves as well. so they can truly love themselves and truly unapologetically be themselves. that’s the message.
Is there something you think non-creatives will struggle to understand about your journey as a creative?
oh, yes. I could write a book on it. lol but honestly, long story short, people who’ve never had a goal that they put work in on yearly just do not understand what it means and what it takes to go all in, believe in yourself, bet on yourself and watch the cards unfold in your favor. people that don’t understand my journey say I make bad decisions, or try to steer me in other directions. but I know that at the end of the day, following my heart is the only thing that will keep me happy and feeling alive in this world. I have to chase my dreams, anddd make them a reality. it’s so much more than just something I would love to see for myself, it’s something I have no other choice but to make happen for myself because everyday I rise it’s my passion that gets me out of bed. I know and I understand my life is everything I’ve ever dreamed of and more. I’m already living my best life. and as I love to say, it always gets greater later.
Is there a particular goal or mission driving your creative journey?
The moneyyy, LOL. no, but seriously, I would love to just make music for a living and make money using my beautiful face and personality to talk the checks right into my bank account. lol, no, but seriously. I see myself waking up every morning, doing some yoga, having a smoothie, writing raps, making visuals, kissing my man and getting our day started running our business and living our lives as the rappers/comedians/personalities/production artists/stars that we are. life is so sweet, and I’m ready for it to keep getting sweeter and sweeter. s/o to Carthon Studios, s/o to Mo <3 s/o to me!!! lol, nah, but, yeah. the financial freedom and just freedom all around is the main goal for me.
