We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Lor a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Lor , appreciate you joining us today. It’s always helpful to hear about times when someone’s had to take a risk – how did they think through the decision, why did they take the risk, and what ended up happening. We’d love to hear about a risk you’ve taken.
My biggest risk that I took it was when I left everything in my home country, Brazil, to come out here to the United States by myself to pursue my dream, which is to make music.
It was just a big change, in all aspects.
At first it was hard staying away from family, friends, the places I used to go hang out but on the other side everything was new to me and it was a real life learning experience.
Leaving you home to go to a different country where you dont know nothing or nobody can be a little scary sometimes.
Especially when you go at a young age, I got here when I was 21, I didnt really know what I was doing but I knew where I wanted to get.
I think that its one of my biggest risk taking moves that I made in my life, and it was life changing, there’s always beauty in the struggle.
Lor , love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
I go by Lor, Im from Rio de Janeiro, Brazil and Im a rapper. I moved to California in 2017 to purse my dream to rap. I started writing some lyrics, but not really rapping in 2014, but as I was doing it, I would be more and more comfortable to put my voice so I started really rapping around 2016-2017 and since then I never stopped.
I think what sets me apart in the music industry its my flow and my bilingual raps.
I write songs in Portuguese and English and I mix them together, I write about my life, some problems I went thru and I also write about reality.
Im really proud that I never gave up, even tho I went thru a lot of things, I never let myself gave up, I always kept my faith in God and kept pushing.
And I just want people to recognize my work and listen to my music, they’ll see that its authentic, legit, original and I feel like thats what we lacking nowadays.
For you, what’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative?
To me, the most rewarding aspect is that you can express yourself thru your art, and people can relate to it.
That shows me that everybody its human, everybody got problem, no one its perfect,
And whoever relates to the art that you put out, you see that you are not by yourself, you not the only one going thru that.
And also, its rewarding when your art makes people feel good, feel alive
What do you think is the goal or mission that drives your creative journey?
My goal its to be an international artist, known around the world
I know its not going to be easy, but Im putting my all to that.
