Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Lons. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Lons, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. What did your parents do right and how has that impacted you in your life and career?
One thing my mother always taught me was to care about what you are working on. Not because life is all about work, but some of the most pure joy comes from working on something you are passionate about and seeing the finished product come to life. I used to have friends who would drive by my mothers house and see her mowing the lawn every other day, and they would tell me”why is your mom always outside working” and I would simply respond “that’s not work to her”. When you really love what you do, and care about the craft of it, it’s work, but it’s the work that you enjoy doing.
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
I’m an R&B Singer and Writer out of Indianapolis, Indiana. I first started making music in my college dorm back in 2019-2020. I played college ball at the time, and my college roommate had a cousin who made music and had a studio, he asked me to come through one day, and it genuinely changed my perspective on life and what I wanted to do with mine moving forward. I wasn’t very good at making music at first, but I’ve always had a knack for writing. I think what sets me apart as a creative in the music space is my story telling abilities, and my attention to detail. I like to create the picture in the audiences head with the writing of the music. I break down true pain and turn things into a lesson, and a true and relatable event. I’m so proud of the gratitude that I have developed for my growth over the last year and a half. I’m genuinely so happy to be where I am in life, and whatever journey god has set out for me, I hope to continue on that path wherever it takes me. What I would like for fans to know about me is, I am a god fearing man, still learning to be who I need to be. I love my family, I love what I get to do everyday, and to me people are worth more than a dollar bill!
Any resources you can share with us that might be helpful to other creatives?
I wish that I understood multiple platforms can be utilized at the same time. I remember being so stuck on Instagram and just going so hard at that one thing. Not that that is a bad thing, but I am now starting to understand cross platform usage is the way to go. Instagram users are not just Instagram users, a percentage of those people use: Facebook, YouTube, TikTok, Snapchat, twitter (etc.) Just knowing that other platforms offer an audience to.
How about pivoting – can you share the story of a time you’ve had to pivot?
When I first started really doing music and taking it serious, I started with the idea that anything I make I should just put it out, and whatever happens, happens. Not understanding that words hold weight, and the things that us as creatives say have influence. I realize now the power of the tongue and what that can harm or help in this world. The beginning of 2024 with the help of my team, I shifted my approach to the world of music. Now representing honesty, hope, and integrity. This change has been nothing short of receptive from the audience that supports me.
