We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Londyn & Lauryn Newton. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Londyn & Lauryn below.
Londyn & Lauryn, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. Can you share a customer success story with us?
When L&L Bowtique learned that there was a gap in hair bows with images of black and brown girls and inspiration messages, they were determined to solve the problem. They began with offering Black History Hair Bows and later expanded to offer Black History Month, Juneteenth, and Crown Day gift sets which each included a T-shirt with matching hair bow and book. This was a game changer for their customers as it offered parents a fun and unique way to educate their young children about the African American culture. Many parents have shared how they’ve used the hair bows to initiate conversations about the Juneteenth holiday, which commemorates June 19, 1865 when all enslaved African Americans were freed in the United States.

Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
L&L Bowtique was founded in 2019 by two school aged sisters, Londyn and Lauryn Newton, whose love for hair accessories inspired them to develop their own line of handmade products. Growing up, Londyn and Lauryn often wore hair bows. Their mom was constantly in search of hair bows with images of black and brown little girls and hair bows with positive affirmations. When they could not find any, their mom encouraged them to create their own.
L&L Bowtique uniquely designed handmade hair bow products to foster beauty, self-confidence, and cultural appreciation. L&L Bowtique offers a premium selection of products that can be customized and/or personalized to match the unique needs of its customers.

Can you tell us about a time you’ve had to pivot?
Similar to other companies, L&L Bowtique had to pivot during the Covid-19 Pandemic. Prior to the pandemic, they relied heavily on local pop-up events to grow their business and generate sales. With less than a year of operating and the country on shut down, they expanded to an online platform to continue connecting with customers. Moreover, they innovated their product line to include uniquely designed hair bows with matching face masks. This quick decision making helped them to maintain a presence with their local customers and grow their presence beyond.
How did you build your audience on social media?
We are living in the age of social media and there’s no turning back. Instead of fighting against it, we’ve learned how to use it to our advantage. Social media allows you the opportunity to connect well beyond your local community in the instance of a “share”, “like”, or “comment”. Some advice we’d offer to businesses new to social media are:
1. Take advantage of the free consulting sessions with marketing agencies to learn the best methods to be effective on social media.
2. Rely on your personal network to share your post. While everyone may not be able to invest in your product or service, it costs them nothing to share :).
3. Dont just post messages but be courageous and post videos. People want to interact with you.
