We caught up with the brilliant and insightful London Monroe a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
London , appreciate you joining us today. We’d love to hear about the things you feel your parents did right and how those things have impacted your career and life.
I started rapping when I was 6 years old. My dad was recording music of his own and I asked him to give me shot on the mic. He wrote a quick chorus and gave me a shot to rap it. He said I did a great job and encouraged me to finish the entire song. From there I made my first song called Fleek. Both, dad and mom have supported my in my music career. My dad even lined up more opportunities like starring in commercials , short films and magazines. I have so much fun and thank my parents for everything.
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
Im a 9 year old rapper, actress and model. I have now been doing shows, putting out music and videos for about 3 years now. I also have a book called Inside A Rainbow that my dad and I released last year. It’s available on my website LondonMonroe.com, Amazon and also Barnes and Noble and is what I’m most proud of, especially since its a book for kids and is based on equality. Speaking about my website, you can also purchase cool merchandise like shirts, hoodies, stickers, cup etc.
What’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative in your experience?
The most rewarding part of being an artist is inspiring other kids. I love to show them that anything is possible if you work hard. Also working hard is easy when you find something that you really love and is fun to do.
Is there a particular goal or mission driving your creative journey?
My goal is to just share my music and arts with the world on a bigger stage. It would be super cool to have my songs in movies and TV shows. I would also love to be in movies and show myself. I feel proud of myself when I notice other people enjoying my music and stuff.
