We were lucky to catch up with London Kasmir recently and have shared our conversation below.
London , thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. Let’s jump to the end – what do you want to be remembered for?
When I think of legacy a few things come to mind that are really important to me. Impact, relationship, reputation, purpose & responsibility.
Building anything with purpose and impactful meaning comes with the weight of responsibility that transcends the optics of what people may assume. Building genuine relationships is what I believe allows any ‘legacy in the making’ to stand the test of time.
How I am remembered and what I am remembered for starts with how I make people feel about myself and my work now. My hope is that I will be remembered as the woman that never gave up on herself and made a way out of a path that wasn’t just handed to me but something I never stopped working for.
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
I have dedicated my career to colliding the worlds of Media & Entertainment with Fashion and Beauty. I started my career working in Radio and Production. I then transitioned into Social Content Production, Consulting and Community Management for multi-million dollar Corporate Beauty, Fashion, Lifestyle & Wellness Brands.
I currently Executive Produce and host ‘Let’s Talk Life with London’ my talk show that spotlights change-makers and pioneers of color within a variety of creative industries. I’ve had the opportunity to interview Magazine Editors, Celebrity Hairstylists & MUA, Professional Models & Dancers, Recording Artists, Media Executives, Google Ambassadors, Founders + CEOs and many more. Let’s Talk Life with London is distributed over 10+ streaming platforms such as iHeart Media, Spotify, Apple Podcasts, Amazon Podcasts, Youtube & more.
I am also a Red Carpet Media Correspondent for PressPass LA a Los Angeles based Entertainment Media Company. I’ve had the opportunity to cover events such as The Daytime Emmy Awards, New York Fashion Week, John Wick: Chapter 4 Premiere, Universal Studios Halloween Horror Nights, Apple TV’s Black Bird, Peacock TV’s They/Them, Starz P-Valley Season 2 Premiere & many more.
Through my media and business ventures I’m dedicated to using my voice and platform to inspire and motivate others that their dreams are in fact in their reach. I’m really passionate about using my insight and experience to help others navigate and accomplish their dreams.
Have you ever had to pivot?
My entire professional career has been managing and balancing pivots. Pivots in this industry and professional climate are necessary and when executed in the right way can truly be your superpower! Building a transferable skill set that can set me up for success in any industry I enter has been what has really opened up doors of new opportunity for me.
Oftentimes we think of pivoting as ending one thing to start another which isn’t always the case and this perspective can be harmful to operating in our fullest potential and even exploring other talents and abilities we may have.
I have quite a few interests; I love fashion, beauty, writing, producing, music, interviewing etc. If I were to create boundaries and limits for myself by staying in one narrow professional lane without pivoting this wide variety of interests and passions may not have been something I knew I was great at and had interest in.
Another great thing about pivots is it breaks the barriers of beliefs in our mind that the dreams or goals that we want to achieve can only happen through one source or opportunity. I am a testament that your wildest dreams can manifest through places and people you never could have imagined, so I recommend being completely open to personal and professional pivots.
Can you share a story from your journey that illustrates your resilience?
I’ve never been one to stop at no, when I have vision to do something I also have vision for the process. The big goal we have in mind takes preparation and development so my professional career has really been rooted in rolling up my sleeves and being a good steward of whatever project or job I am working on at that time.
I have never been too good to pick up multiple jobs that aren’t even in my industry to get to where I need to be. I’ve been a nanny, I’ve cleaned houses, I’ve delivered groceries before, I scooped ice cream and many other part-time gigs. Those jobs never took away from my other goals; they only built me into the woman that can manage the responsibility of even more to come.
The biggest lesson I have learned from that is that with each job or opportunity you have- do it well and take with it a lesson you can apply to the big thing later down the road.
I like to live by the saying “ treat the small things like the big things so when you get to the big things you are ready for anything that comes your way”.
