We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful London Hill. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with London below.
Hi London , thanks for joining us today. What’s the backstory behind how you came up with the idea for your business?
Honestly Leather working kinda fell into my lap and I realized that I was good at it. I was working for a haunted house at the time and I was creating pieces for my character “Dread Richards” and I wanted him to look and feel more imposing. So I started looking at leather armor, however, I’m a heavier guy with broad shoulders and couldn’t find anything that looked as good as I wanted, that was also in my price range. So like the DIY queen I believe myself to be I set off on youtube learning leather craft. I think I researched for about a good month before I got brave enough to go and buy some leather and try it myself. and after a few errors and pattern revisions I’d completed a pretty cool looking pauldron. after finishing it I had a few friends reach out and tell me how nice it looked and if I could make similar pieces for them, of which I obliged. After completing those my now fiancée and my best friend sat down and convinced me that this was a market for our area that needed filling. so I decided to become a local armorer/cosplay leather worker. And 2 years later I’m now making full sets of armor for renaissance faires, Viking fests and such all around. I knew this was something I wanted to do after the first armor piece I finished, my brain immediately started working on new ways to sculpt and create other pieces in new ways. I also wanted to give people good quality without breaking their banks. its hard to find the items I create without spending thousands, my goal is to have fun and make others look good in the process.

London , before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
My name is London and I’m one of the owners of NimbusCreationsllc. My goal with this company is to provide quality leather armor/cosplay items without destroying your budget. I got into leather crafting by making items for myself and others until it slowly evolved into a business. I provide a plethora of leather working services for those in my area, from custom pieces to fixing old ones! Often times my main job is taking the vision you have and breathing life into it while working within you budget. Nimbus is a high fantasy company that’s always shooting for the stars and landing amongst the clouds with an aim to fit all body types and styles with items the love so that any one can feel as good as they look.

What’s a lesson you had to unlearn and what’s the backstory?
So a big lesson for me was the pattern creation process. To give a bit of history on myself, I’m Asthmatic and when I was younger it was pretty severe. needless to say playing sports and other rough activities was out of the question. So i read …..A lot. but i was also helping my mother who taught my a ton of art and of the the most prevalent was sewing. Fast forward about a decade and my friends convince me to start going to conventions with them. which led to me getting really heavily into cosplay. but as a perfectionist I wanted to make all of my outfits, so to the sewing machine I went. I’ve been making patterns and sewing for years, so I generally have a good idea on how something is supposed to sit on the body, however, those patterns aren’t the same when you’re dealing with leather especially the thicker vegtan I’m used to working with. Leather isn’t fabric and often times I find myself creating a pattern for a piece and having to revise said pattern upon the items creation because some of it is simply not needed. I often have to switch the way I think about how a piece needs to be constructed and its been challenging, but also very rewarding.

Can you tell us the story behind how you met your business partner?
My business partner/ cofounder is actually my fiancée. He is actually one of the people who really pushed for me to open this business. He has never ceased to encourage me to try new things, or experiment with new techniques, we met during covid at a coffee shop and we have walked gloriously side by side ever since.
