We recently connected with Lomiekia Messam and have shared our conversation below.
Lomiekia , thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. Taking care of customers isn’t just good business – it is often one of the main reasons folks went into business in the first place. So, we’d love to get a conversation going around how to best help clients feel appreciated – maybe you can share something you’ve done or seen someone do that’s been really effective at helping a customer feel valued?
I know most business owners may already know this, but without our customers we would have no business. My customers are my business. So my job and goal is to show them consistency. I owe it to them because that’s one of the main reasons they hired me in the first place (they saw in my work). My consistency in my work has allowed me to gain my clients trust. Once a client trust you, they become comfortable with you and once they’re comfortable with you, you because “theirs’. Over the years many of my clients have deemed me as “their” photographer. And let me just say, there’s no greater feeling than hearing a client claim you are “their go to photographer”.
I honor and show my appreciation to my clients by being honest and providing them with top tier customer service. It’s the best thing I can give back to them. The number one compliment that I’ve received from my clients has been how they feel so “beautiful and confident” during my sessions with them, because usually they come to me nervous and worried about not knowing how to pose and worried about their look. And that’s where I comes in, to reassure them and remind them that it’s my job to direct them and guide them, once I remind them of that, they eventually let all guards down and the rest is HISTORY!!

Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers
I am Lo’ and I am the CEO of Dynamic Duo Photography where I specialize in Business Branding Portraits, Family, Events, Weddings and Lifestyle Portraits. I have had the pleasure of capturing amazing & beautiful people/families over the years. My #1 favorite part about my career is the relationships I have built with my clients over the years. I literally have so many of my clients numbers stored and saved in my personal cell phone.lol.
Looking back, I grew up in a home were my mom was always taking pictures of my bothers and I remember that I’d take her camera, bring it to school and take pictures of my classmates and friends. I didn’t know it then, but God was preparing me even back then for photography. I just didn’t realize that it was a gift/talent (at the time). To this day, I still have all of those old pictures and memories from high school (which was 20yrs ago). I have always been fascinated with photo albums and portraits.
I remember when I first picked up my camera, taking pictures started off as a hobby and simply something I was doing for fun. I never knew or thought photography was something I was good at until I started getting compliments of my work (after posting them on social media). God bless my friends because my early work was just “okay” compared to now…lol. Let’s just say, thank God for “growth”. lol. Once I felt and knew I was ready to take photography serious, I invested in it by starting classes and found a mentor. I didn’t realize how much I didn’t know until I found a mentor. My investment in my craft literally changed my life and up’d my photography skills. Which is why I tell all business owners or potential business owners to INVEST IN YOURSELF! And make sure it’s “your” calling/gift. I’ve always said and promised myself that the day photography start not to be fun for me anymore, will be the day I quit because you have to love & be happy with any career you choose.
I am so proud of where the photography world is today because I remember when photography started off as a male dominate career. So it just bless me to see more female photographers getting into photography. I have so many photographer friends that are training, teaching and hosting photography classes (which makes me so proud). I love that I am a FEMALE BOSS and I love to be surrounded around other female bosses! My next long-term goal will be to enter in the training arena for photography one day but as of now I enjoy being in the field and being up close and personal with my people.

Any insights you can share with us about how you built up your social media presence?
I built my audience on social media by simply being true to who I am and displaying what my brand represents through my work. When clients see my work, they notice that I am a photographer that doesn’t shoot every and all things. I’m very particular of who I service. You have to be that way if your clients represent your brand. Over the years I have allowed my work to speak for me. You have to be authentic and honest. I never post any false ads and all the portraits I post is MY WORK and my work only. I allow my clients to leave reviews (I don’t delete anything). My clients also know they can come to me about any concerns or issues they may have. I have always prided myself with being a straightforward photographer. When people see that you are honest and like the style of services you provide, they’ll book you.

How do you keep in touch with clients and foster brand loyalty?
I keep in touch with my clients through social media (honestly). Usually if I’ve serviced them in the past, we stay connected via social media. I noticed that when a client is interested in me servicing them, the first thing they’d do is follow me on social media, and then they’d send me an email inquiry. I collect all of my clients emails once they provide them, and then I just save them to make sure I have an extra layer of contact. I have built real bonds and relationships with my clients over the years so it’s a must that we stay in touch with each other.
