We were lucky to catch up with LoLo Jennings recently and have shared our conversation below.
Hi LoLo, thanks for joining us today. What’s the best advice you ever gave to a client? How did they benefit / what was the result? (Please note this response is for education/entertainment purposes only and shouldn’t be construed as advice for the reader)
As a personal trainer and nutritionist, I’ve got some top-notch advice for anyone looking to improve their overall health, when it comes to investing in your health, you want to make sure you’re getting the most bang for your buck. First and foremost, you want to find a program that is tailored to your specific needs and goals. A one-size-fits-all approach just won’t cut it. You also want to make sure that you’re working with professionals who are qualified and experienced in the field.
And lastly, you want to make sure that the program is sustainable in the long run. After all, you’re in it for the long haul, right?I am strongly anti-fad diets because not only are they temporary, but some are just ridiculous. We’ve all heard of them – the cabbage soup diet, the grapefruit diet, the baby food diet (yes, that’s a real thing). But let me tell you, these diets are not the way to go. They may promise quick results, but they’re not sustainable in the long run. Plus, they can be downright dangerous. Instead, focus on making small, sustainable changes to your diet and lifestyle. You’ll be much happier and healthier in the long run.
Many of those who inquire about my coaching have no knowledge that our relationship with food is linked to our emotions and our mental health. That’s right – what we eat and how we eat can have a big impact on our overall well-being. That’s why it’s important to work with professionals who understand the psychological aspect of nutrition and fitness. In my practice, I help clients develop a healthy relationship with food and make positive changes that will last a lifetime that can lead to a healthier, happier you! My approach is very practical and does not involve counting calories, or macros. Instead, I teach my clients to eat more real food, macro balanced meals, and pay close attention to the bodies responses in tandem with understanding their own mental behaviors and triggers. Ultimately, its about establishing a plan with a strategy as well as tactics to guide daily activities and decision making.

Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers
When I was about 34, unhealthy, dangerously diabetic and 245lbs, I found myself in a very dark place that was leading me in a downward spiral. I knew that if I didn’t do something different that I would, no only cause myself more pain and suffering but my family. I hated myself in everyway for blindly allowing myself to get to this point in my life. So, I decided to take myself off of all medications which included 3 forms of insulin and 2 oral pharmaceuticals that always left me feeling like shit. Thankfully, my physician was willing to follow my lead and support the plan I had to heal myself from the inside out.
From there I created a plan for myself that led me to start working out at home. I would sleep in my workout clothes with my shoes by the bed so that I had no excuses. I scaled down my diet by limiting the number of processed foods I was consuming as well as how often I was eating. Once I could maintain the consistency and my discipline, I decided to do group dance classes. I was so heavy when I started that I could barely keep up without getting cramps and unbearable muscle soreness but I persisted. The more I went the better I felt and the more I wanted to improve. Inevitably, I was so inspired that I became a licensed instructor, began teaching and ultimately acquired my certification in sports nutrition, coaching, and personal training.
Today, I am a thriving solopreneur for my business Lit Fit Nutrition and Fitness as well as an indoor cycling coach at Trufusion in San Antiono, Texas. I am so proud of my journey and how far I have come and the lives that are changing because of what I do and the way that I do it. The passion and fire that I have drives me to create an experience for people that they will never forget. I really want to be the type of coach and influence that I needed and wish I had when I was in the darkest season of my life.
How’d you build such a strong reputation within your market?
Building a reputation in the nutrition and fitness industry takes a lot of hard work and dedication. For me, consistency has been key. I’ve consistently taught and coached group fitness classes and built relationships with my clients that go beyond just the gym. I’ve made it my mission to not just help people become physically fit, but mentally sound as well. By consistently showing up and giving my all, my clients know that they can count on me to help them reach their goals.
In addition to consistency, I’ve also made it a priority to constantly learn and grow in my knowledge within the industry. I stay up-to-date with the latest research on nutrition and fitness and attend conferences and workshops to improve my skills as a coach. By staying on top of the latest trends and information, I’m able to give my clients the best possible guidance and support.
At the end of the day, my goal is to help my clients become healthier, fitter, and happier. Whether I’m leading a group fitness class or providing one-on-one coaching, I strive to create a fun and upbeat (LIT) environment that encourages everyone to push themselves to their limits. As human being we are not meant to go this journey alone and I understand the value of support and guidance. I wholeheartedly believe that people can change their lives because if I can do it, anyone can.

Let’s talk about resilience next – do you have a story you can share with us?
Let me tell you, the road to success in the health and fitness industry is not for the faint of heart. When I first started out, I was met with more eye rolls than high fives from my family and friends. But I didn’t let their lack of support bring me down. I mean, who needs a cheerleading squad when you have a killer playlist and a strong sense of determination?
There were definitely times when I wanted to throw in the towel and call it quits. But I knew deep down that success was within reach if I just kept pushing through. I focused on being better today than I was yesterday, even on the days when my muscles were screaming for mercy and my brain was begging for a break.
One of the biggest hurdles I had to overcome was dealing with negative energy from those around me. I quickly learned that I had to eliminate interactions with people who didn’t match my vibe. Life’s too short to let other people’s negativity bring you down, am I right? So, I focused on sharing my energy only with those who reciprocated it in a positive way.
As much as it would be nice to have a cheering squad of supportive people around us all the time, sometimes we have to be our own biggest cheerleaders. I had to lower my expectations of others and increase my expectations of myself and become the support and energy I wanted to receive. And let me tell you, it paid off big time. Because at the end of the day, the only person who can truly hold us back is ourselves. I stopped dimming my light to appease those around me who couldnt and wouldn’t appreciate it.
