We were lucky to catch up with Lola Londonk recently and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, Lola thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. What’s been the most meaningful project you’ve worked on?
The most meaningful project I’ve worked on is FAM Affair. FAM Affair is my fashion, art and music showcase i curate and host every year, this year will be my 4th year and I’m so excited to be able to bring together so many creatives and supporters of the arts under one roof for a night of experiences. I started FAM Affair if 2019 but had the idea for this showcase 3 years before that, I went to several promoters and influencers who turned me down on the idea until finally I was able to turn the dream into reality in the summer of 2019. Its the first event I’ve ever really and truly curated from beginning to end, the first project I could take all my ideas and pour them into this one night event.

Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
My name is Lola, Im an event curator. I was that person in high school who had rangers at my house every weekend, my parents owned a club for years so on Fridays everyone from every school was at my place till 2am like clock work. As I got older the parties got more elaborate and i changed direction from nightlife parties to creative events like art, fashion and music showcases. I started my own interview show called disrespectfully speaking which opened a lot of doors for me in the creative world. I met so many talented artist like Jason Skeldon and Michael Vahl and DJ Bodega and just so many talented creative people who realized their dream. I loved interviewing people but after seeing and hearing so many people talk about their path i started to really think about my own. I was never a extra curricular kid, no musical or athletic talent and my creativity was the ideas I had for other people, my talent was being peoples biggest supporter. I had friends who were bad ass artist, singers, designers and I wanted to showcase them all, I needed more people to see their talent so I started on FAM Affair. FAM Affair is a fashion, art and music showcase that I curated in 2019, the idea was developed way before that though, people just didn’t believe in me yet so the idea was passed on by multiple promoters and influencers in the city. It wasnt until an amazing artist by the name of Nic Vas came to me and said “yea let’s try it”.. we had 10 or artist like Michael Vahl and Nicholas Lucius showcase their work, we had PUSHAPREME and the wandering assassins play and we had a fashion show with a few local designers like Vintage stock reserve, Je Onyx and more, it was an amazing show and we had over 300 people come out. I couldn’t believe we had pulled this show off and so every year I try to make it bigger and better with more experiences and art interactions. I also started A is for Art which is a monthly art show and market with Fire performances and other surprises. I haven’t been able to have a one of those for a couple months because I started coordinating events for Coastal Creative but they will be coming back!
I curate experiences, that is my service and talent. I love to take ideas and make them reality and it’s all events but creative events are my favorite because there really are no limits. Anybody who doesn’t want to deal with the stress of coordinating an event and call me, I got you covered!
Im proud of all my events but FAM Affair is my proudest moment, it was the moment I realized my potential.
I put my heart and soul into all of my projects and sometimes I can become a handful but I am passionate so im not very sorry about that part lol
Is there mission driving your creative journey?
Its super cliche but honestly even though I do what I love for a living it wouldn’t have ever happened without my son. I was diagnosed with ADHD in 2021 at the age of 27, being diagnosed was amazing because it all made sense but before 2021 I was just a person who couldn’t hold a job down because I couldn’t focus and didn’t know why my mind was racing a million mph, it was hard I wont even go into detail but it was my son who kept me going even before the diagnosis because I needed him to know that we were gunna make it and we were Going to be HAPPY. I didn’t want to work a job that made me miserable because he would feel that energy and what if he thought he had to be miserable to make it in life? I didn’t get to finish college and I don’t have a degree but I was gunna make sure we was good and happy.

What’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative in your experience?
The most rewarding part about being an artist for me, is the freedom to be unapologetically me. My ideas can be good or bad and that’s okay! I love to be able to try new things and if they don’t work try them again but differently, I love the learning journey you go through when being a creative, there’s always room to grow, mature and improve.
