We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Lola Berry a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Lola , looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. One of our favorite things to hear about is stories around the nicest thing someone has done for someone else – what’s the nicest thing someone has ever done for you?
This was a gift someone who i interviewed gave me. I have a podcast called Fearlessly Failing and i interview really successful people about the ups and downs of their careers. You see if think we grow and learn so much when we have a failure or stumble. I was interviewing this incredible actor from Game of Thrones; Owen Teale and i asked him what advice he had for aspiring actors and he responded with a Hamlet quote “The readiness is all.” Owen then went on to explain you have to stay ready because you never know when that chance or opportunity will come your way, so we should stay ready. And then be able to ride the momentum of the opportunity when it does come. Don’t miss your opportunity which will come your way. Stay Ready. The Readiness is all.
Lola , love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
My name’s Lola Berry; I’m a podcaster, author, TV host and aspiring actor. I have a podcast which I love dearly called “Fearlessly Failing with Lola Berry.” It’s got over 500 episodes and had over a million downloads! I’ve also written 11 health and wellness books, I forgot to mention I’m a nutritionist too. That’s actually how i started working in the entertainment industry, I was a media nutritionist going on TV making smoothies and teaching the viewers and hosts all about health and wellness. I love making health simple and easy for people to understand. I have a Bachelor of Health Science, majoring in nutritional medicine. And I used to own a smoothie bar in Melbourne, Australia called “Happy Place By Lola Berry” and everyone who bought a smoothie got a free crystal.
I’m an Aussie living here in LA, but i spent the last 15 years working in media in the health and wellness space in Australia and touring all over the country with my books, filming for TV and doing public speaking. So my career has been very colourful with many different parts that fill my dream cup!
Is there mission driving your creative journey?
My goal is to connect to peoples hearts. As an actor we get to touch people hearts and hopefully invite them to feel something. And as a TV host I get to connect with and hold space for people with incredible stories and wonderful journeys. So for me it’s all about connection and this idea of always coming to a set with an open heart. I also teach yoga and theres a sanskrit word “SATYA” which means truthfulness, and thats my jam, to live with an open truthful heart. I dont think that living that way would ever let you down.
Any insights you can share with us about how you built up your social media presence?
This might sound like really strange advice but here goes… JUST BE REAL, staying grounded with an open heart is my motto. Theres a lot of fake out there, and I think the hype of all of that fake stuff doesn’t last. So if you’re in it for the long game just be yourself, be real and dont be afraid of being vulnerable.
