We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Logan St.clair. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Logan below.
Hi Logan, thanks for joining us today. Let’s jump back to the first dollar you earned as a creative? What can you share with us about how it happened?
We had just released our first E.P., and within a few days we had more purchases than I thought would happen. Nothing crazy, no life changing sales. But the fact that people enjoyed what we had made, that people wanted to spend their money on our art was a great feeling. It was validating. It was reassuring to me that I was doing something worth doing. I wasn’t just making noise in my garage anymore, we had created something that resonated with people. It was pretty sweet.
Logan, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
We are Amnesia, a stoner metal band from Portland, Oregon. We formed in 2018 out of a common passion for heavy music.
The band is Logan St.Clair-Bass guitar/Vocals, Jeremiah Turner-Guitar/Vocals, and Collin O’Malley-Drums.
We are most proud of our most recent release, Side Quests. We put a lot of time and effort into this, recording and mixing it all ourselves. We pride ourselves on our DIY ethos, and do everything we can ourselves. I feel that it’s more personal that way, we just want to share our craft with others.
We just want to make music that people enjoy, that they can connect with. All of our lyrics tell stories, and it’s exciting to share these stories with as many as we can. Accompanying high fantasy stories with heavy, groovy riffs is our goal, and we hope people dig it.
What can society do to ensure an environment that’s helpful to artists and creatives?
All Ages venues disappear to0 often, these places need our support! Every band starts small, and without a thriving music scene there’s no where for them to start. The kids are the future, as cliche as it may be, but they need spaces to be able to share their art and hone their craft.
I played in a lot of all ages spaces growing up in Portland, and every single one of them is now gone. Music should not be beholden to alcohol and bars. It should not be gate-kept because the kids can’t drink. Without the ability to go to so many shows so frequently when I was younger, I don’t think I would have been as interested in music as I am today.
For you, what’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative?
The most rewarding part for us is just having people appreciate our music, to see that we’re not just doing this for us. It’s incredibly rewarding to see a bunch of new streams or to get a notification that someone bought our album.
We are very small time, so we don’t have a real contingent of fans. But after a show when someone comes up and tells us how great we were, it makes it worth it every time. Contributing to a community I love and getting acknowledged for it is an awesome feeling.
