We were lucky to catch up with Logan Soland recently and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Logan, thanks for joining us today. How did you learn to do what you do? Knowing what you know now, what could you have done to speed up your learning process? What skills do you think were most essential? What obstacles stood in the way of learning more?
Since I can remember I wanted to be and Actor, Singer, and Writer/Director. Growing up those crafts seemed so far away and very unrealistic, and my only real connection to them was either going to the movies with my parents, buying CD’s, or my dad’s old VHS collection. I can’t remember an age where I wasn’t sitting alone in my basement watching every single film I could get my hands on (many I shouldn’t have seen at that age lol) for no other reason other than that I loved cinema. I would go from 40’s noir to 80’s sci-fi to silent film and everything in-between. It was a foundational education learning the history of the craft and sparked a deep love for cinema that has only grown since then. Before any dreams of creating, singing, or acting I was a cinephile and a lover of music, that love for the crafts has never left me and has informed everything I do as an artist.
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
I’m an Actor, Singer-Songwriter, and Producer. I’ve been singing and acting pretty much my whole life but junior year of High school I decided to quit athletics witch I had been involved with a long time and go all in on acting and music. I started in theatre, acting and learning in ten straight productions on the stage including Gabe in “Next to Normal”, Frederick in “Pirates of Penzance” and Sky Masterson in “Guys and Dolls”.
When the pandemic hit I decided to shift my view to my childhood dream of writing singing and songwriting and acting in film. I have since acted in eleven shorts including “The Resistance”, “Slasherverse” series on YouTube and multiple award winning 48 hour Film Projects. I also have acted in two feature films “Shooting Stars” On peacock playing Jake, and “Lost and found in Cleveland” playing Bobby which is in Post-Production.
I’m also a singer-songwriter, my first single “For the First Time” is on all streaming platforms and I have quite a bit of music coming in the future witch I’m very excited about.
What do you find most rewarding about being a creative?
For me the most rewarding part of being an artist is all that you learn. Every Character, Script, Song, or even painting I believe has a life of it’s own and I always try to tap into that. I always want to do something I haven’t done before, I’m an incredibly curious person by nature and I believe art, in all it’s forms, is the best thing in the world to learn about people. Art has shaped an understanding of all different kinds of people and an empathy for people I would’ve never known without it. Getting to learn different skills like fencing or tap dancing for certain characters and all you learn from your research is always very exciting for me.
Is there mission driving your creative journey?
I’ve always tried to stay true to what younger Logan loved about the crafts. It’s always been very important to me to constantly do something different and not play the same character or write the same song over and over again. I think the best artists are ones that can be a chameleon of shorts and that’s my main goal in my career, however long I get to try. I believe in any craft/ Job its integral to know the history of it, to learn as much as you can from the people who have come before you and give them their flowers as often as you can. On the flip side I think my main goal is to leave the crafts better than I found them, to contribute in whichever way I can and hopefully one day inspire the next young Logan to pursue there dreams the way my idols did for me.
