We recently connected with Logan Moore and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, Logan thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. Often the greatest growth and the biggest wins come right after a defeat. Other times the failure serves as a lesson that’s helpful later in your journey. We’d appreciate if you could open up about a time you’ve failed.
When I first started making goat milk soap, I partnered up with my friend. We were both so excited in the beginning that I overlooked any potential problems that could come with starting a business with my friend. As time went on, it became clear that we were at very different stages in our lives. Because of this, we had different priorities, time commitments, and goals for the business. It ultimately led us to splitting ways as business partners, but we remained great friends. I essentially took several steps backwards when we split, having to come up with a new business name, packaging, etc. I don’t necessarily see it as a failure, because I learned alot during the process. But it was definately a moment where everything didn’t go as orignially planned.

Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
I live on a small farm in southeast Ohio with my husband and 3 kids. I raise Nigerian Dwarf goats, have chickens, and love to garden. I began milking my goats after they had a found of babies and decided it would be fun to make and sell goat milk soap! Once I started using it myself, I realized how beneficial natural ingredients are for my skin. That drove me to tell all my friends and family about it, because I wanted them to experience the difference too. I named my company Glo Local, and I have since started selling whipped sugar scrubs as well, with plans to add more products soon.
I take pride in the fact that my products don’t have any preservatives in them. Your skin is the biggest organ that the human body has, so it is super important to know what all you are putting on it. I am also very strong in my faith in God, and know that He gave us all we need to take care of our bodies. Shea butter, Cocoa butter, Coconut oil, Olive oil, and Castor oil are all provided to us as natural ingredients, so those are what I use to make my soaps! My favorite Bible verse that I use as a reminder for my farm and business is 1 Corinthians 16:14, Do everything in love. I print this verse on every soap label.

We often hear about learning lessons – but just as important is unlearning lessons. Have you ever had to unlearn a lesson?
I would say I had to unlearn some of the ways that my old business partner and I did things. Some of the decisions that were made, were a compromise between what she wanted and what I wanted. After branching out on my own, I had to come to the realization that I didn’t have to do everything the way we used to. And in fact, I didn’t want to do things the same. There was alot of freedom that came with that.

How did you build your audience on social media?
I try to be as authentic as possible. People can sense when you aren’t being real. My advice to those starting out on social media would be, just be you. Don’t try to do something that someone else is doing, if it doesn’t align with your values or goals. God only made one of you, and you are enough as you are!
