We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Logan Mitchell. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Logan below.
Logan, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. Let’s start with the story of your mission. What should we know?
We love learning and education, so opening Collins & Coupe was a natural way for us to both expand and share our knowledge with our community!
Logan, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
We are a bar/cocktail supply store in San Diego that caters to expert and amateur alike! Home bartenders, professionals, people who don’t consume alcohol at all. We specialize in education and love to help. In 2020 we started shipping all over North America: the US, Canada and Mexico via collinsandcoupe.com.

What do you think helped you build your reputation within your market?
We have a commitment to excellent customer service, we try to give everyone the same care and attention regardless of skill level. Our staff is ready to educate any customer, give recommendations, go above and beyond to make sure everyone is happy. We also do out best to source ethically and with diversity in mind, searching for the next creator who is outside of the box. We only stock items that we believe in and would use ourselves. Additionally, we have many of our products open for handling and sampling, ensuring that people get exactly what they came for!

How’d you think through whether to sell directly on your own site or through a platform like Amazon, Etsy, Cratejoy, etc.
We operate an online store through Square, and it has been a really great experience. When the pandemic forced us to shut down, we didn’t have an online presence at all. We had been using Square already for our in-store platform, and they made it relatively seamless to transition that inventory to an online store. It wasn’t without a ton of work, though…with near a thousand items in stock we had to upload product photography, product descriptions, shipping information. That included weighing each item one by one so we can offer our customers the best and most accurate shipping rates available. It took months to get the website looking the way I wanted it to!
It’s also been fun to see how Square has adapted to the pandemic and all it’s changes…before 2020 it was mostly a restaurant platform. When everyone was forced to move their retail online they switched into high gear, making changes on a daily basis to better serve a retail customer. I have their stellar customer service line on my speed dial. I’ve watched the capabilities change such a huge amount, and have been so involved in the process that I am now a Beta tester for Square online. Anyone need help with their Square online store?
