We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Logan-Miles Allison. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Logan-Miles below.
Alright, Logan-Miles thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. How did you come up with the idea for your business?
Buckle up!
Here we go!
I never in a million years could have “thought” I would be where I am today. God has been good to me! I know that timing is always perfect! So whoever is reading this, HELLO and welcome!
Before becoming “The Heart Hatter” I actually owned a “lifestyle” shop called Noggin Fuel! Noggin Fuel was a place to “use your noggin & fuel your brain!” My buddy Stephen and I sold smoothies, bowls, prepped meals, and teas for the city!
During this time I was also a pro model traveling back and fourth back and fourth from city to city, gig to gig! I had been modeling for a few years and knew that I wanted to start making clothing! I called my agents and said I was done getting hair cuts and wanted to grow out some dread locks! I wanted to be a designer! I wanted to bring the first high end fashion show to Waco, TX!
On my last photoshoot set 3 months prior to the fashion show, a homeless man road by on his bike a stole my hat…In the broad day light!! Boom! Gone!
This hat was very special to me! This hat had been a gift from my grandmother aka my Me Maw! She had gifted me a black hat with an orange bandana wrapped around it! (Which if you know me/see me, you may spot an orange bandana around my neck in honor of my Me Maw). I called my Me Maw up to apologize for not taking better care of it and she told me I could create my own hat!
I realized this was my blessing! This was a way I could serve others with the heart & love that had been shown to me through grace. I wanted to create a work of art, not just an item to wear! So that is what I did.
I patented 6 different “Heart Hat Crowns” that I use when creating my one of one works of art!
I believe that everyone is one of one! I always say, “there is no one like you that ever was or ever will be!”
I love hearing peoples stories and helping them become a little bit more of who they want to be/ who they have been called to be! I always “thought” I had to be like my parents, but what I realized is that we are called to be who we and that is all. (We are all very powerful.)
Over the years I have been blessed to learn / grow from a few other master (haberdashers, milliners, hatters) as well, but I started out teaching myself the craft from the start!
I ended up creating creating around 15 or so “simple” Heart Hats for the fashion show and they were a hit!
After the fashion show I was asked to be a featured designer of the Texas Tallent Expo and shortly after that I was blessed to win the “Rising Star of Dallas” award for my hats.
I ended up traveling out to Tennessee where I met the worlds best jacket maker, the man who put Johnny Cash in all black, Manuel Cuevas! We chatted for some time and long story short … I was fully inspired to go buy a van, put my workshop in it and hit the road! HAHA!!
Looking back at it, it actually made zero sense! (but what in life truly does when we are on the straight and narrow?) Most of us feed ourselves false hope everyday. Just the fact to think we will have another breath is a gamble most people take for granted every second. I wanted to put myself into the unknown, to fully jump into the void!
I have always been a go getter. I have always been the kid to go do the extra! I was always the one with a new idea with another “personal goal” to achieve … The funny thing about it all is that I realized it was all selfish. Nothing I had accomplished at the time was super fulfilling. It was just one after another like a never ending cycle.
I know that I am a puzzle solver. I know I have been called to help others the way I do. (Which may not be understood by the world)
There are many problems in the world and if the world was not so selfish and “diviDEAD” by sin we would all be in a better spot. There is not a problem we can all solve together.
The uniqueness that I have to offer to the world is myself and my craft. I am here to tell a story that has been given to me. Which like I said before, there is no one like me that ever was or ever will be. So, at the end of the day the best I can be is to be fully me in servanthood of my blessed breath that I have not deserved.
Logan-Miles, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
My name is Logan-Miles Alison, but I go by “Heart Hatter”! I was raised in Frisco, TX with a twin brother and two sisters! I am an ex athlete who has had 8 back procedures and 12 knee surgeries up to date. I have had a lot of ups and I have had a lot of downs. (I believe this happens in everyones life in one way or another).
I have been blessed to travel / van life it for the past 4 years of this journey thus far! I have been learning and creating day by day to now understand that I have not a clue where the Lord wants me to end up. I am on the adventure patiently working hard!
I realized that evil can give the world to anyone who chooses to seek it (it can give more “things” to people than I ever could). I believe there is a lot of “good” in the world. I also believe that “good” with no true servanthood to our creator is not what it may seem. I realized that I needed to seek a relationship with the One who gave the ultimate sacrifice so that we may have everlasting life! I needed to chase the relationship I am called to have and serve.
Once I accepted that realization … I understood that I myself am an artist and that I had been given a skill to be able to help others tell their story. I do not have a real plan, I gave my “plans” up along time ago. I realize now that I will be provided with what I need at the exact time I am supposed to be provided with it.
I am beyond excited right now in this journey of LIFE!
I know I will always be placed in front the person I am supposed to meet!
My knowledge is growing, my eyes are opening, and I know I have been called to be right here right now in this time of the worlds existence.
I have witnessed my craft grow from creating simple rabbit felt hats (selling for a a few hundred dollars) to creating exotic beaver canvas hats from scratch (selling for a few thousand dollars) to being able to create major canvas works with my poetry and home made music with my twin brother which has sold in the 6 figures!
I have been blessed to be able to work with my twin brother as he creates timeless works on his piano!
Being able to create a full experience for the world, that the world has never witnessed is what I am witnessing right now!
I can not imagine what the future holds, but I am definitely down for the adventure!
Right now I am working on finding a spot to host the first ever Heart Hatter Art Extravaganza!
(Seeking connection to the biggest art institutions in the World.)
I am here to to show the world how a little bit of faith can go a long way. May you choose to accept the everlasting gift for it is real and may He use you to bless others!
Here we go!
Can you share one of your favorite marketing or sales stories?
Sales are always interesting. They are always so random to be honest. One of my favorite stories of a sale is when I sold a work of art to someone they actually bought someone else a hat! They wanted it to be a surprise! They told me I could create a hat for someone I thought really needed some inspiration! They did not want the person to know who they were, but they wanted to see a quick video of that persons story with their hat. This has only happened once, but it honestly was very touching to me. I understand not everyone can “afford” a Heart Hat. I wish I could give the world one for free, so this was very cool to me!
Sales have been there, but there has been times where I am called to be in the struggle. We have all had to struggle / work since the beginning of the fall! I try to enjoy the process now. I try to see the good lessons in dark times and enjoy growth in the high times. Sales, money, I wish it never existed, but they do come and go at the perfect time for me. It has been a true blessing, I am thankful.
Can you tell us about what’s worked well for you in terms of growing your clientele?
The most effective strategy for growing your clientele for me has been literally been word of mouth! I think for me it has been hard to showcase what exactly it is that I do. Not to many people understand the quality of my work until the witness it in person!
