Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Logan Kozminski. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Logan, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. How do you feel about asking friends and family to support your business? What’s appropriate, what’s not? Where do you draw the line?
Todd and I are fortunate to be surrounded by great families. They are our biggest supporters and have been excited to see us grow. Our families were the very first customers of Perfect Circle Proteins+ and continue to purchase our products. Their willingness to help us in any manor is greatly appreciated as well! Our friends are also eager to assist us along the way, too. Not only do they support us by purchasing products, but they are continually providing us with new ideas and insight. This is just as crucial for adapting and growing as a company. We would not be the same without our awesome and supportive families and friends!
Logan, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
My partner, Todd Wilson, started up Perfect Circle Recycling. This is the company I work for as my main job. We recycle packaged food waste to divert these materials from the landfill. Some of the products we are sent to recycle include nuts, seeds, oats, and peanut butter. We initially sent these to farms for animal feed, however Todd and I came up with the idea to create suet cakes for birds. We tested an array of recipes until we found the prefect combination of ingredients. We now have two varieties: the T-Bird Blend and the Kozmic Nut Cake. To compliment these, we decided to make upcycled bird feeders and bird houses out of old pallet wood! Not only are our products sustainable from diverting materials from the landfill, but they are also superior in quality compared to the store bought items. We are proud to be both environmentally responsible and pursuing our passion for the outdoors. Our end goal is to scale up to sell our products in brick and mortar stores while diverting even more products from the landfill. We are excited for the future and to see what all Perfect Circle Proteins+ can achieve!
Can you talk to us about how your funded your business?
When we were still in our ideation phase, Todd and I decided to enter our idea into Start Garden. This is a business incubator that helps fund and give resources to startups. To prepare, we created our LLC and also formulated our first suet cake variety. Perfect Circle Proteins+ was fortunate enough to be selected into the top 100 ideas, which also came with a $1000 grant. In the next round of Start Garden, we were in the running for twenty grand, however we did not get selected for that. The grant competition not only provided us with the primary funding for our company, but the networking and connections we made during this event were important to get us started as well. From there, we have wisely allocated those funds to grow our business to the place it is today! We still have a lot of room to grow, but we are headed in the right direction!
We’d love to hear the story of how you built up your social media audience?
When I started interning/working for Perfect Circle Recycling, I created social media pages to gain publicity. I had never ran social media pages for a company before so this was a crash course for me. Since then, we have received numerous compliments for how great our pages are. Likewise, when Todd and I started our offshoot company, Perfect Circle Proteins+, I simply applied what I learned from the experience of operating the social media for the business I work for. The main takeaways of this are consistency. You need to post on a regular basis (1-2 times a week) and at a similar time of day to use the algorithm to keep your posts at the top of your follower’s feeds. Similarly, consistency also applies for the content of your posts as well. Your brand image is reflected by your social media, thus you want to use the same fonts, colors, branding, etc. in all of your posts and marketing tools. The more personable you are, the better. People greatly enjoy seeing personal interactions, visually appealing images, and information that grabs your viewer’s attention. If you do not have fun and enjoy what you are posting, your audience likely will feel the same way. This may seem like a lot, but it is easier than you think once you start!
