We were lucky to catch up with Logan Jackson recently and have shared our conversation below.
Logan , looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. Can you talk to us about a project that’s meant a lot to you?
Wither is, without a doubt, the most meaningful project I’ve ever worked on. The story has grown from something that started as a simple concept to something deeply personal—something that feels larger than just the act of making a film. The urgency and importance of the subject matter have made every step of the process meaningful, even in its early stages.
At the core, Wither isn’t just a film about a mother trying to reunite with her daughter—it’s about a fundamental human right: the right to family, to make decisions for your child, and to fight for your loved ones when everything seems stacked against you. The emotional weight of this story is something I carry with me every day.
The setting in New Orleans, the themes of medical neglect, the maternal bond, and the powerful timing of Mardi Gras all align in a way that makes this project not just a creative endeavor, but a mission. I want Wither to be a voice for those who feel powerless, for parents who are struggling to protect their children, and for people who feel their rights are being disregarded.
It’s meaningful because it challenges the boundaries of what we’re comfortable talking about, pushing those raw human emotions to the forefront. Making Wither is about making sure those who are often overlooked are seen and heard, giving them a platform to express what they’ve endured. It’s the kind of project that feels like it’s part of a much bigger conversation—one that I hope leads to understanding, empathy, and change.
The journey of making this film is something I’m deeply committed to, because I know it has the potential to not just impact those who watch it, but to inspire real-world change. This isn’t just a project—it’s a statement, a calling, and the most meaningful work I’ve done because it carries the weight of something far greater than just the art itself.

As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
I’m Logan Jackson, a filmmaker, writer, and artist from New Orleans, Louisiana. My work revolves around the stories of identity, community, and the human experience—stories that often go untold or misunderstood. I started my journey in filmmaking at a young age, drawn to the way film could create empathy and spark important conversations. It wasn’t until I began working professionally that I truly understood the power of storytelling. I’ve been fortunate to have my work recognized at major film festivals, and I’ve been able to use the craft of filmmaking to explore complex emotions and social issues that matter deeply to me.
I’m particularly focused on creating stories that are grounded in authenticity and rich in cultural significance. Much of my work is informed by my own experiences growing up in New Orleans, where the blending of different cultural influences has always been a powerful part of life. My stories are about real people and the struggles they face, often in systems that don’t fully understand or support them. They focus on resilience, survival, and, ultimately, the search for meaning and connection.
Through my production company, Logan Jackson Productions LLC, I’m able to offer a platform for emerging voices and collaborate with a diverse range of talented filmmakers, writers, and creatives. I work on both feature films and shorts, as well as creative content that speaks to social justice, human rights, and personal identity. The work I do is about challenging the audience’s perspective, encouraging empathy, and inspiring change. It’s not about making films that just entertain but about making films that matter and leave an emotional impact.
What sets me apart is my commitment to authenticity. I don’t just want to tell a story—I want to make sure that the characters, the culture, the emotions, and the context are fully realized in a way that feels true. I believe in pushing the boundaries of what’s expected and being willing to step into difficult conversations. I also strive to be a filmmaker who brings a strong sense of collaboration into every project, empowering those around me to bring their full creative selves to the table.
One of the things I’m most proud of is how my work has been able to resonate with people on a deep, emotional level. Whether it’s the international recognition of my films My Hero or Leonetty, or the chance to mentor other filmmakers through programs like Film Independent’s Project Involve Directors Track, I’m proud of the ways in which my work has contributed to important cultural conversations.
But beyond the accolades, I’m proud of the impact I’ve been able to have on the people who engage with my work. For me, the true value of filmmaking lies in its ability to spark change, to inspire new ways of thinking, and to challenge viewers to consider their place in the world. And at the heart of everything I do is my family—the foundation of my life and my work. My mother, father, and sisters have been my constant source of inspiration and strength. They’ve shaped the way I see the world and approach my craft. The love, support, and values they’ve instilled in me influence every project I undertake, reminding me to stay grounded in authenticity, empathy, and community.
That’s what I want people to know about me: I’m here to tell stories that matter, to open minds, and to inspire change, whether it’s through the work I create or the voices I help amplify along the way.

What do you think is the goal or mission that drives your creative journey?
Yes, absolutely. My creative journey is driven by a mission to amplify voices that are often marginalized or overlooked—especially those that speak to the complexities of identity, community, and the human experience. I believe that storytelling has the power to foster empathy, spark important conversations, and create a deeper understanding of our shared humanity. Through my work, I aim to challenge societal norms and inspire audiences to reflect on their own beliefs, values, and actions.
At the core of my mission is the desire to contribute to cultural conversations that promote social justice, human rights, and personal identity. I’m particularly focused on telling stories that explore resilience in the face of adversity, whether it’s navigating oppressive systems, overcoming personal struggles, or simply finding one’s place in the world. The stories I create aren’t just for entertainment—they’re meant to provoke thought, invite connection, and encourage change.
I also want to create a platform for emerging voices, especially those from underrepresented communities, who have unique perspectives and stories that need to be shared. By nurturing new talent and collaborating with a diverse range of creatives, I believe we can help expand the scope of what’s possible in storytelling and bring more inclusive narratives to the forefront.
Ultimately, my goal is to make films that leave an emotional impact. I want my work to resonate deeply with audiences, to spark dialogue, and to challenge them to think critically about the world around them. Whether it’s through a powerful narrative or the representation of untold stories, my creative journey is about making a lasting difference—one story at a time.

What do you find most rewarding about being a creative?
For me, the most rewarding aspect of being an artist or creative is the ability to connect with others on a deep, emotional level. There’s something incredibly powerful about creating work that resonates with people, making them feel seen, understood, or even challenged. As a filmmaker, I’m constantly driven by the idea that my stories can spark conversations, shift perspectives, and ultimately contribute to positive change.
The process of creating something from nothing—whether it’s a film, a story, or a piece of art—is profoundly fulfilling. It’s like taking all the emotions, thoughts, and ideas that swirl inside you and transforming them into something tangible that can affect others. When people respond to that work, whether it’s through a simple recognition of shared experience or a more complex emotional reaction, it feels like you’ve achieved something truly meaningful.
I also find great reward in the relationships and collaborations that come with being an artist. The act of creating is often a collective effort, and the opportunity to work with other passionate, talented people is inspiring. Together, we build something bigger than ourselves, and that sense of community and shared purpose is one of the most gratifying aspects of the creative journey.
Ultimately, the reward lies in the impact. If my work can move someone, help them see the world differently, or give them a sense of connection, then I feel like I’ve accomplished something truly important. Art has the ability to bridge divides, open hearts, and leave a lasting impression—and that’s what makes it so powerful and rewarding for me.
