We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Logan Evans. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Logan below.
Logan , thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today Risking taking is a huge part of most people’s story but too often society overlooks those risks and only focuses on where you are today. Can you talk to us about a risk you’ve taken – it could be a big risk or a small one – but walk us through the backstory.
I feel like the biggest risk I’ve taken is being a self taught nail technician and being able to apprentice and work towards my license! It was such a big risk because I started in college right before COVID happened and I was already in school for Computer Science. I took a huge risk teaching myself and seeking out the opportunity to apprentice while in school virtually due to COVID and being self taught. There was a master cosmetologist my mom has been going to my whole life and she loved my work and didn’t mind taking a chance on me. From then on I realized it was one of the best things I could’ve done.

As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
I am Logan Evans or Luxury Nails By Lo. I am a nail technician from Mobile, AL and a recent graduate from Tuskegee University. I feel like the whole process of nail enhancements is a luxury & creative experience for everyone. I provide the atmosphere of relaxation as well as amazing service at affordable prices. I am proud to be a self taught nail technician because it shows you can be multifaceted and successful at the same time. I pride myself on my work and how satisfied people feel when they leave. Seeing a client’s smile and confidence boosted is the reason I do what I do. Everybody deserves to feel good about themselves.

Alright – let’s talk about marketing or sales – do you have any fun stories about a risk you’ve taken or something else exciting on the sales and marketing side?
One of my favorite marketing stories is the infamous 2 for $80/Bring-A-Friend sale. I was running a Valentine’s Day sale when clients could come with a friend and receive any full set they wanted for $40 each. The odds were heavily stacked against me because I was back in face to face school and commuted to campus. This was one of the biggest sales I’ve ever had and it was booked to capacity. I was getting home from school and immediately changing into my scrubs to start doing nails. Some came with simple ideas others wanted every add-on they could get! It was invigorating and being able to see a lot of people on campus with nails done by me felt unreal. After that sale I vowed to never do it again until I have my very own shop to pack out.

We often hear about learning lessons – but just as important is unlearning lessons. Have you ever had to unlearn a lesson?
A lesson I had to unlearn was that you can only have one passion. When you’re growing up and asked “What do you want to be when you grow up?” it seemed like there was only one thing you could be. I was an extremely curious child and changed my mind millions of times. In the same breath I became really good at multiple things and gained vastly different skills. When this interest of being a business owner remained constant as well as my love for creativity and art I knew I could be anything I wanted to including multiple things at once. A passion is a passion and it doesn’t diminish in the place of another.
