We were lucky to catch up with Logan Boyd recently and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, Logan thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. If you could go back in time do you wish you had started your business sooner or later
I think I started Richmond Flower Truck at the perfect time. I started the LLC in May 2022. Coming out of isolation from the pandemic, I think Richmond Flower Truck provided a safe, yet exciting activity to help customers come outside. At the time that I started Richmond Flower Truck I was incredibly bored in my career. I had been in the same position for six years and I just needed a creative outlet. So I took a leap of faith and started Richmond Flower Truck. When I started I was on a mission to get the truck up and running as soon as possible. It took me 10 weeks to finish renovating the truck and our first popup event was in the middle of July. I was nervous people wouldn’t come out in the summer heat, but the support for Richmond Flower Truck has been amazing! I am so glad I took the leap in starting Richmond Flower Truck this year.
Logan, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
Richmond Flower Truck is a mobile bouquet bar. It allows customers to create their own hand-wrapped bouquet. Richmond Flower Truck specializes in using local flowers as much as possible. We also try to use American grown flowers well. We specialize in making your own bouquet, but we are also available for floral arrangements, bridal bouquets, small weddings, etc.
I started Richmond Flower Truck after I searched for a Flower Truck to book for my daughters birthday. I was shocked when I realized there were no flower trucks in my area. For a time I put the thought to rest. Then a friend passed away unexpectedly, soon after starting her own business. Her excitement and enthusiasm towards starting her business really inspired me; so I decided to start Richmond Flower Truck to honor her memory.
Richmond Flower Truck is about blooming; growing; evolving. “Keep Blooming” is motto for Richmond Flower Truck. I want to inspire my daughter and other little girls to go after your dreams. Don’t wait for anybody else to start living dreams. So many people want to wait for the perfect moment before they commit to their dreams and I want to inspire people to just start!
Where do you think you get most of your clients from?
The best source of new clients has been visibility. Once the truck was renovated we hit the ground running! We started doing popup events every weekend. I wanted to get the truck seen. So many people recognize our logo now. People have even asked how many trucks we have because they have seen it so many different places. Social media also helps a lot with visibility. Pictures, tags, shares etc. all help with people learning about the business. In turn, they come out and support the truck because they want to experience creating their own bouquet as well. Branding is important because that is what people remember. We have received numerous compliments on our branding. It’s makes me feel good when people compliment the truck and the logo because the branding was a high priority for me when we first started Richmond Flower Truck.
Can you share a story from your journey that illustrates your resilience?
One example that illustrates my resilience is starting the flower truck. When I started Richmond Flower Truck, there were no other flower trucks in the area. This caused some issues getting a business license because people were confused how to categorize it. So many people told me different things. Finally I just went up to the office. Thankfully the woman I encountered when I went in the office understood my vision and was able to successfully grant me a business license. But when you are starting a business that people are unfamiliar with, you have to take extra time to help people understand. I faced alot of challenges getting the truck renovated as well. There were not lot of vendors who had experience renovating a trailer. I called numerous places just trying to find someone who could assist; some businesses had extremely long wait lists and others just don’t work on trailers at all. I finally found a company who could assist me and it ended up being a great fit! It took about six weeks for them to complete the renovations on both the inside and outside the trailer but they did an incredible job! I actually saw the renovated truck for the first time on my birthday and I was blown away! Definitely the most memorable birthday I have had to date.
