We recently connected with Lizzy Barr and have shared our conversation below.
Lizzy, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. So let’s jump to your mission – what’s the backstory behind how you developed the mission that drives your brand?
To help women of all ages look and feel beautiful about themselves from the inside out with my makeovers I’m able to highlight and enhance their natural beauty. All while edifying, uplifting and encouraging them.
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
My name is Liz Barr I was born and raised in Miami Fl with 6 other siblings. I’m a lover of Christ, I’ve been married to my amazing husband for 14yrs and we have 3 wonderful children. I recently gave birth to our baby boy 2 months ago. My family is my Why.
I can remember falling in love with the beauty industry as a kid. I would do my hair and makeup and take pictures with my Kodak disposal camera, take it to CVS and get my prints. I would do the girls in my neighborhood & school hair. & practice Makup on my sisters.
Fast forward after graduating high school, my husband I had our first daughter in ‘08. I did a few years of college while working at a daycare. A five years later I moved to central Fl we had our Second daughter in ‘13. I was a stay at home mom, during that time I can remember creating my very first wig. It was a U-Part wig I made for myself. I did make and sell one wig after that but, I didn’t take it serious to think I could do this as a business. ‘16 I started to do professional photography at different schools. & I would shoot maternity and family photos while taking collage courses. Later on I got really into makeup and became a freelance MUA for about 2 years while working at Ulta Beauty. I was still making wigs for myself and at the end of 2016 is when I really considered making wigs to sell. Yes, I was doing makeup, but by the beginning of 2017 I really put my energy & time into hand stitching custom lace wigs to sell. This is when Lizzy’s Beauty Barr came to be. I was making wigs in every texture & color you can think of. I eventually added lace installs to my services. So I was now doing makeup applications, making custom wigs and installing the wigs. By 2019 I launched my first hair products line. This came about after receiving feedback from my clients that the wigs would lift after less than a week. I felt the need to create a product that would solve this problem. I did just that. “Quick Grip Lace Glue” I created an adhesive that dries quick, is smooth, waterproof, sweat proof, consistent, and gives up to a 2-4 week hold. After months of testing and preparation I released my 3 step lace application system. Over the next few years I added several other products to my collection. My products are sold on my website lizzybeautybarr.com and are available to purchase in several beauty supply stores throughout central & south Florida. Beauty Factory, ASP Beauty, City Beauty, Miracle Beauty, Menate Beauty, Rainbow Beauty, D&D Beauty Express, Number 1 Beauty,
Here in 2022 I combined my many years of experience, all my gifts and talents together. I now offer total makeovers for my clients. That’s right, a top to bottom makeover including a photoshoot! I offer several different makeover packages tailored to my clients specific needs.
I’ve been featured in ‘20 Voyage Miami, ‘22 The Sisaundra Show, The Candice & Kris show on Xfinity AfroTV and Faces of a mompreneur
I now give others the opportunity to learn skills they can monetize from.
Through •my online and in person makeup courses, •my one on one lace application classes, and •my online course on how to get your hair products into beauty supply stores.
We’d love to hear the story of how you built up your social media audience?
The way I have built my audience or “my Lizzy Gang” on social media is through creative content, going live, using call to action whenever I post, engaging in the comments section, posting open ended questions in my stories, creating relatable content. And most of all just being true to myself. Reposting things that are relevant to my industry.
Learning and unlearning are both critical parts of growth – can you share a story of a time when you had to unlearn a lesson?
I had to unlearn trying to do everything without any help from others. Being in business over the years I’ve learned the importance and the power of creating meaningful relationships with others in the same industry as you. I’ve collaborated with some dope women and men in my industry all because I allowed myself to be open to different opportunities that presented themselves to me.
