We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Lizbeth Mejorado a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Lizbeth , thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. What do you think matters most in terms of achieving success?
I think one of the main things you have to do to become successful will be practice consistency, there will be times where things get hard and won’t work out , but I think consistency it’s the key to have results , I had so many struggles during my journey but I never stopped, I reinvented my self so many times and did my best every time, staying consistent and learning new skills to improve will take you to the next step definitely.
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
My journey started 14 years ago when I became a makeup artist, I struggled to find trainings and mentors when I first started so once I became more knowledgeable and had more experience I decided to open my first makeup studio and start teaching makeup enthusiast and woman in general who wanted to explore makeup artistry or become a Professional Makeup Artist, I had to go to Los Angeles and New York for the first couple of years to train with well know makeup artist and bring inspiration and new techniques for my students, years later I hosted my first Master Class for Professional Makeup Artist and beauty pros here in Austin with international Artists from Mexico and Brazil, that was something I always wanted to do because of my struggles of finding trainings here locally, I feel proud about all my graduates who I see on social media thriving and working so hard for there dreams, just like I did and still do to become better and better in this craft.
I think when you really love what you do, and have what it takes ,passion, love and discipline, it’s a matter of time so that you become successful what what you do. I really enjoy collaborating with other professionals, network and share knowledge and experience with others. That’s what I created Level Up in 2020. In our Master Classes, network events and retreats we bring a community together to learn , grow and succeed in our careers and as individuals.
The best part about my job is seeing how woman become more confident and happy doing what they love. I found my purpose in life and now it doesn’t feel like a job anymore and I am so grateful for that. Connecting , inspiring and providing tools and inspirations is the one thing I enjoy the most now in my career.
Are there any books, videos, essays or other resources that have significantly impacted your management and entrepreneurial thinking and philosophy?
One the the things that had helped me since I first decided to open my business was learning people’s skills, reading and listening to podcast as well as getting advice from experienced and successful business owners.
I think knowing your craft and being talented is not enough when you are going to be working with all this different clients or even with employees, learning how to communicate is also a big part , that’s why I always recommend to make the habit of spending time learning those skills. Books like how to make friends and influence people, personality plus and the 7 habits of highly effective people are my top 3.
Can you share a story from your journey that illustrates your resilience?
During my journey I had to slow down even this I was the most successful in my business, l had moved to a big space and had the makeup studio of my dreams at that time, everything was doing so good but my self, I had worked so much without taking a break that my físicas mental health got affected really bad, when I heard the work cancer I got really scared, thank God it was just a sign, it was pre cancer and when that happened I literally asked God to take everything away but get my health back, I literally lost everything within a month. I had to close my studio and decided it was time to focus on my self and my kids, my two boys are my main reason and worked really hard for 2 years but this time on those important areas I was missing. I got back up and re open my studio, now I do things with purpose and advocate about mental health , balance life with work to stay healthy and happy.
