We recently connected with Lizbeth Martinez and have shared our conversation below.
Lizbeth, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. We’d love to hear the backstory behind a risk you’ve taken – whether big or small, walk us through what it was like and how it ultimately turned out.
No risk, no story. I live by this motto. My entire life has been full of me taking on “risks” and stepping out of my comfort zone. However, the biggest risk I have taken by far is when I decided to leave my corporate job, without a plan B in mind. I decided that my happiness and mental well-being were far more important than staying in a job that provided financial stability but that truly was not fulfilling my soul’s purpose. As cliche as that sounds, this reason was enough for me to take the next step into my journey. Little did I know this decision would change my life in a major way. I found myself lost at first, without a clear direction, and without any guidance whatsoever. It took about a year and a half before I started to “find myself” again and followed my heart’s intuition that told me to buy a one-way ticket to Bali, Indonesia and signed up for my first yoga teacher training. This is where the true magic began to unfold for me, and this is where my wellness journey also began. I got certified as a yoga instructor and immediately after my return back home, I started teaching at a local yoga studio in my hometown of Fort Collins, Colorado. A few months went by and I realized that I was ready to start my personal brand, Wellness by LIZMAR. I created a website where you can learn a bit more about myself, my brand and my journey. (www.wellnessbylizmar.com) You can find delicious, healthy recipes on there, read my blogs and also take yoga/meditation courses online. You can also find me on instagram under wellnessbylizmar, and check out the content I share on there which focuses on holistic wellness and mindfulness living. I recently went to Rishikesh, India to take my 300 hours of yoga teacher training and to deepen my own self-practice. This is only the beginning of my journey and I am looking forward to continue to share more with the world and build a community of mindful humans that are also on the search of fulfilling their soul’s true purpose.

Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
A brief description of me is that I am in my era of transformation and I have been for the last 2 years. I have adapted constant change as a way of living my life and it has now become part of me. When I decided to leave my corporate job and focus fully on creating my own wellness brand, Wellness by LIZMAR, I had no expectations set and also had no idea of what an amazing journey it would be. Of course it is not an easy journey, but I honor each step of the way and acknowledge my efforts. Wellness and taking care of my health has been a priority for many years, however I never imagined I would one day be focusing my full attention in creating a business from this passion. For me, it has helped to not see it like a business because I truly enjoy what I do and providing a safe space for others to heal and connect more with their body, mind, and soul continues to be my main focus. I love serving others by doing what I love most, which is yoga. I am proud of myself for all of the time I have invested into learning more about this “yogic lifestyle” and how to implement it into my own way of living and to share with others. I have taken multiple courses and read many books that help me build confidence and knowledge to share with those that want to learn and connect more with their own yoga practice. I am manifesting to collaborate with others in the same field of wellness and to host my own wellness retreats as well.

Let’s talk about resilience next – do you have a story you can share with us?
My resilience during my journey comes from all of the times that I have “failed” to succeed. Through these so-called failures, there have come many lessons along the way. One of the biggest lessons has been how to be resilient and to trust the process. An instance in my life that illustrates my resilience very clearly is when I decided to quit my job without a plan B. All I knew is I needed to find the courage to continue forward with my decision and figure out the rest along the way. I had no savings and no idea of what I wanted to do next as far as a profession. I was working on side hustles to make some money in the meantime but I knew this would not be sufficient in the long run. That is when I realized my true ability to adapt and recover from difficult situations. I trusted that my decision was the right one and that everything would just work itself out along the way. That is exactly what happened. One year went by where I allowed myself to explore new options and stayed open minded to all possibilities. I worked random jobs to help me save up for what was coming next, and when I least expected it, I was on a flight to Bali Indonesia to follow my dream in becoming a certified yoga instructor. Since then, I have been teaching full time and recently completed another yoga teacher training in Rishikesh India, where I was able to deepen my knowledge and personal practice. Looking forward to sharing more of this wisdom with others, and hoping to continue expanding my own knowledge in holistic wellness.

Learning and unlearning are both critical parts of growth – can you share a story of a time when you had to unlearn a lesson?
One of the biggest lessons I’ve had to unlearn is thinking that I am stuck in a certain profession. I learned that it doesn’t matter how long you’ve been working somewhere or how much training you have done to get there, if you are not feeling fulfilled in that current profession then it is not where you are meant to stay. I learned that quitting does not mean you have failed. My last corporate job was working for a bank, where I invested a lot of time in, doing additional trainings in order to continue growing within the company. I acquired licenses and titles that I had to study for and invested time outside of my regular working hours to get there. However, once I realized that none of these titles were making me feel fulfilled and instead made me feel like I was stuck, that is when I took a step back and had to unlearn the definition of what true success is. I now measure my personal success on small achievements and check in with myself every chance I have to make sure I am following my heart in everything that I do.
