We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Liza R. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Liza below.
Liza, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. Alright, so you had your idea and then what happened? Can you walk us through the story of how you went from just an idea to executing on the idea
Starting a business is never about waiting for the perfect moment; that moment may never come.
I had the idea for my business in the middle of the night and by the end of the next day, I had created its Instagram and began spreading the word.
Sure, you need to plan and strategize, but I firmly believe in taking messy action over waiting for perfection. Waiting for everything to align perfectly can lead to unnecessary delays.
Fortunately, there was immediate interest in my business, but that doesn’t mean everything went smoothly. My first event had only 3 attendees. I could have given up, but I didn’t. The next event had 12 attendees, and it grew from there, with every other event after that drawing between 25-75 attendees each.
It’s so helpful to jot down your big ideas and then break them down into manageable steps.

Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
I’m the Founder of NYC Brunch Squad ®, where we specialize in organizing events and clubs for women seeking new friendships and connections. While our roots are in NYC, we’re excited to announce our expansion with pop-up events in other cities and the launch of our Travel Club, open to anyone worldwide!
Navigating friendships as an adult can be daunting, but we’re here to make it fun and easy.
Since our inception in 2018, NYC Brunch Squad ® has facilitated thousands of meaningful connections, and it brings me immense joy to witness the bonds formed within our community!

Can you tell us about a time you’ve had to pivot?
When the pandemic struck, like countless other business owners, I had to think outside the box. With in-person events no longer feasible, we seized the opportunity to transition to virtual gatherings. Surprisingly, this shift proved to be a blessing in disguise. Not only did it keep our community united, but it also enabled us to reach women in distant corners of the globe. We were able to spread healing and positivity during a really dark and challenging time.
How’d you build such a strong reputation within your market?
We organize exceptional events that consistently exceed our guests’ expectations. Following each event, I distribute feedback forms to gather any suggestions or comments they may have. By incorporating their valuable insights, I continually refine and enhance our processes month by month.
The last question on the form is “will you be joining us for another event?” and the response has been 100% yes for over 3 years.
