We recently connected with Liz Theresa and have shared our conversation below.
Liz, appreciate you joining us today. Let’s start with a story that highlights an important way in which your brand diverges from the industry standard.
Yes! I really like to think I pleasantly disrupt the web design industry. When we sell a website to someone, we’re start to finish *different* in terms of approach, skillset, and ethics:
– A lot of people who make custom websites make them incredibly hard to edit and maintain – we take extra steps to make them incredibly easy to use and work with without compromising aesthetic.
– A lot of other web designers don’t take into account highly-converting copy or intentional use of color and layout to increase conversions. *ahem* We care very much about those things and retain staff who “get it.”
– Unlike our competition, we don’t outsource development or design – everything you get is made 100% in the USA by a team who is fairly paid and W2ed.
– A lot of people who sell websites don’t understand ethics around domain name ownership, deploying a site securely, and hosting your clients. We take steps to educate our clients as best we can – make sure they own their name and their website content (as it’s EXTREMELY important.)

As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
I started my business in 2011 after receiving my Master’s in English – and frankly, only knowing I wanted to work in business doing social media. I applied and applied and could not get a job anywhere. I finally received an interview for a company looking to hire a copywriter to write product descriptions (of wigs, specifically – so random!) — and the person who interviewed me told me the job would suck the soul from my body. His words, not mine. So I left thinking… “was that a good interview? What just happened?”
I got in my VW Beetle and called my mom. I told her I just wanted to help businesses market themselves on social media.
She replied simply, “You don’t need permission. Just go to the businesses and help them in exchange for money.”
It blew me away. After getting started, I got a few clients and realized that I could only do so much as a social media marketer. Social media is only as effective as your website — the place you send the traffic. You can send LOTS of traffic, but if the user doesn’t buy something or convert, it’s the website’s fault.
That’s when I realized that WEBSITES are of the utmost importance. When you have a highly converting website, you don’t need a ton of traffic to generate a lot of business. And then my company was born.

Can you share one of your favorite marketing or sales stories?
I remember back in 2013, I needed to raise enough money to pay for my first wedding. My fiance at the time had been laid off and we needed to come up with $13,000 within 2 weeks to pay the venue. I ran my first ever sale in my business and grossed $22,000 – paid the venue with great confidence and we went on to have the wedding. It was the first time I treated my business like a true business – a company that was capable of generating large amounts of money. I also began to understand my own value – and how sales psychology can work for a business that runs sales so infrequently. Like mine!
What’s been the most effective strategy for growing your clientele?
Be so good at your job that people can’t resist telling other people about you. Social media and marketing – all of it helps. But when you focus on providing a red carpet experience for your clients, and you follow through on that, your work will truly speak for itself. And also accepting your own awesomeness – being willing to learn and be better. Every mistake is a new opportunity to adapt your service approach and model to rise.
