We were lucky to catch up with Liz Munn recently and have shared our conversation below.
Liz, appreciate you joining us today. To kick things off, we’d love to hear about things you or your brand do that diverge from the industry standard
Most estheticians purchase all of the “products” used in a facial treatment from other vendors. I grow herbs and process them into products that I use during treatments and for home care recommendations. Garden to face is a big part of my mission to provide the freshest and most accurate type of product for the result and concern. When I can’t grow or make a product I am very specific about what and from where I source things. I believe this attention to detail and direct care for clients is different than what most spas, and other skin therapists provide.

Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
I have been an esthetician for a long time. Around the time of COVID I began studying Chinese Medicine. During that time the herbs used and the energies of different ingredients became extremely interesting to me. I wanted to learn more about local herbs to my area and how they worked. This led me to begin studying herbal medicine making & foraging. My love of plants was fitting perfectly into my love of people and problem solving. I can’t imagine not using this knowledge in my daily practice with clients. They usually come to see me when traditional options are no longer working for them or they have a strong sensitivity to products. My ability to grow and create products helps them and provides a garden to face approach that only customized skincare can.

How do you keep in touch with clients and foster brand loyalty?
My business is personal to me. I follow up with people within a day or two of meeting them. I ask them how they are doing and if they have questions. I give written instructions and education regarding the things we discuss and enlist them as a partner versus a customer.

What’s been the best source of new clients for you?
I’ve worked in many areas for new clients. At one point I felt like Google and SEO was the best source. I am also fairly active on social media and with emails. I believe the most effective source is referrals. When clients refer a friend or family member to me I thank them and show them I appreciate the kindness. I believe human connection is the best source of business growth.
