Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Liz Maldonado. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Alright, Liz thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. What do you think matters most in terms of achieving success?
Consistency and showing up for yourself everyday! My best advice is just start and don’t look back, keep going!
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
Like many other people the pandemic changed all of our lives, I would say that’s when everything changed for me. I started my social media career as I was also working full time as an essential worker in a pediatric office. On my way to work I would listen to podcasts on how to monetize your social media, on the weekends I would batch shoot all of my content for the week, and it was like this for almost a year before I started to see anything happen. Then brands started noticing my TikToks and Instagram, from there I started taking partnerships with brands and getting experience from each partnership and getting better and better. Soon I would get asked to model for local boutiques around the DFW area and posting about my life as a local model. This led to me being scouted online and signed to O Models agency in LA as a plus size Latina model! 2022 was the year where it all really just took off, I then was also found by my amazing talent agency, The Lilac Agency, and I have to say they are my backbone and keep me booked and busy! I am so thankful to have my management team now, but I am also so thankful that I put in all the hard work in the begining and learned all the ins and outs of the whole business!
Any insights you can share with us about how you built up your social media presence?
Honestly, social media is something that is constantly changing! I took a lot of free online courses and listened to free podcasts like “Full Time Influencer Podcast by Tina Lee” to learn everything I know now! There is SO much free education online that we have access to with the click of a finger, you can learn anything about anything in this day and age! What I saw work for me is posting with a strategy, don’t just post to post. Ask yourself what purpose are you serving?, who am I helping? who is my ideal audience? This will help you then pick hashtags for your niche and key words to include in your posts, now that both IG and TikTok have SEO! If you are posting for your ideal audience and serving a purpose the audience will come!
We’d love to hear a story of resilience from your journey.
If you’re going to jump into social media and put yourself out there to help others, you are going to have to take all the good, bad, and the ugly! You definitely have to have tough skin, there’s always going to be someone prettier or someone with a bigger following. Be prepared for the hate comments and all the negative energy sent your way! People constantly make comments about my weight, about how my clothes fit, or what I should wear that is “flattering” for my body type. You have to take it and keep it moving, because all it takes is that one person to see you and feel better about themselves or more confident in their own skin! All comments are good comments to the algorithm so keep them coming, good and bad! Don’t let other peoples misery ruin your day!
