We were lucky to catch up with Liz Johnson recently and have shared our conversation below.
Liz, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. To kick things off, we’d love to hear about things you or your brand do that diverge from the industry standard
Most marketing firms require clients to sign a one-year contract for services. I believe we need to earn our clients’ business every day and we do. For 21 years, since I founded Mountain View Marketing, we have never had a client contract. Our clients stay with us because of the return on investment (ROI) we deliver and the exceptional client experience we provide. We have clients who have been with Mountain View Marketing almost since we opened our doors 21 years ago. Not requiring a client contract enables our clients to try our services and experience the ROI we deliver and the outstanding client service we provide without a long-term commitment.
Also, many marketing firms have an A team that wins the work and a B team that does the work. I think that is a disservice to clients. There is no B team at Mountain View Marketing. All of the members of the Mountain View Marketing Team are knowledgeable, experienced, award-winning experts in their fields ensuring that our clients get the best of the best from the onset of their projects through completion. We’ve helped our clients in many verticals nationwide grow their businesses vibrantly and sustainably–some between 28% to 300% in 18 months. 98% of our business comes from referrals and the Mountain View Marketing Team is very proud of that.

I’m Liz Johnson, President & Principal Consultant with Mountain View Marketing. I’ve been in marketing for 44 years. I spent 23 years doing national and international marketing in the corporate world and founded Mountain View Marketing 21 years ago.

Can you open up about how you funded your business?
I’m not a fan of debt so I drew from my personal savings for the seed money to start Mountain View Marketing. I started very small and have steadily expanded the Mountain View Marketing Team and our services during the past 21 years. We have built and leveraged from our success for continuing company growth.

We’d love to hear a story of resilience from your journey.
Like all business owners–Covid presented a number of significant challenges. I kept my focus on learning all I could about reinvention, repositioning, and refocusing so my team and I could help our valued clients survive Covid and be positioned to thrive coming out of Covid. Thankfully all of them did. These insights also helped Mountain View Marketing to be successful during some lean years.
