We recently connected with Liz Ferron and have shared our conversation below.
Liz, appreciate you joining us today. I’m sure there have been days where the challenges of being an artist or creative force you to think about what it would be like to just have a regular job. When’s the last time you felt that way? Did you have any insights from the experience?
I can’t imagine doing anything other than what I do. I started later in life and sometimes wish I began at a younger age, but realize this is my time. When it feels right, that’s when one can begin their journey. Comedy, radio & television are such a huge part of what I do and who I am. I have tried 9-5 jobs but have been too restless & always longing to do something different like, enter into the entertainment business.

Liz, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
They say a challenging life builds character. It also builds the need and the drive to do and be a better person. I decided to use some of the issues that I have gone through in my life and turn them into a comedy routine. Not only is it funny, but it also helps people who can relate to similar aspects of life, follow along, laugh, and figure out a way to deal with life’s Issues. Doing Comedy lead me to the desire to be on Radio because I felt like my personality would be a joyful experience for people to hear on the air! I was right. I bought my own studio time in a large market radio station so I could get the experience. Once I had the experience, I started off in a small market and worked my way up to medium morning radio markets and have been doing radio now for the past 20 years. It has been rewarding and really has defined my purpose. I love to make people laugh. I like to inform people I like to entertain and make people happy. As I have been enjoying my radio position in Vail, Colorado on 104.7 The Mile. A surprising opportunity arose at the local television station. They were looking for new hosts, and I applied. Eight months later, I heard back, and they were interested! For the past year I have been entertaining and hosting Good Morning Vail on TV 8, which is on Comcast, YouTube and live streamed on www.TV8Vail.com. It is an amazing addition to what I’ve already been doing with my life, and it has brought me a whole new appreciation for the world of entertainment, and feel good media. There’s so much terrible news out there that it’s really wonderful to be part of something that is all about community and positivity. The one thing I learned is that it doesn’t matter what age you are, or where you are in life you can always reinvent yourself and do amazing things with your life and career.

For you, what’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative?
For me, the most important part of what I do is bringing levity, positivity and happiness to those who watch and or listen. We all need light and excitement in our lives and that’s what I feel like I can bring to people. When somebody comes up to me and says they can relate to what I’ve said, or they have laughed and a joke I’ve made, or they really enjoyed the special interview with a community member or organization…. it is absolutely rewarding!
We’d love to hear a story of resilience from your journey.
The amount of resilience it takes to be able to work in the industry of entertainment is huge. You have to be able to handle rejection, contract, changes, egos, and, yes, being a female! It’s empowering to be in a business, where it is mostly dominated by males, however, giving what I have to offer is so rewarding in itself that the negative aspects of the entertainment business are small compared to the exhilaration one feels from doing a great job and bringing special stories too light.
