We were lucky to catch up with Liz Borden recently and have shared our conversation below.
Liz, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. When did you first know you wanted to pursue a creative/artistic path professionally?
I knew I wanted to a musician at a young age. I also acted. I performed from the age of maybe six years old. I could have been younger. My mother put me in ballet at seven and that didn’t work out because I am just not ballerina material. I took lessons. I remember wanting a purple tutu and I did get to have a purple’s one but I think my first ballet performance was my last. Long story but it wasn’t for me and my mother could see that. There were also piano lessons and well, I wanted to write my own songs so at age 8 or nine I told the piano teacher I wasn’t into the music she was teaching me.

Liz, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
I am a musician, actor, photographer and more. I’ve been in bands since I was a teenager. Some of my more known bands would be Lizzie Borden and The Axes, Lava Beat, The Finch Family, The Liz Borden Band and Liz Borden, solo artist.
I have regrouped with the Finch Family. We are back together in Los Angeles..

In your view, what can society to do to best support artists, creatives and a thriving creative ecosystem?
I think society can support creatives by showing up at live shows to support musicians and buy some merchandise. Watch our movies. Go to our plays. Buy our art. A lot has changed for creative people in recent years do to digital music etc. Streaming music and movies. We don’t make the money we used to. We don’t get paid like we did from streaming so showing up means a lot to all of us.

Is there a particular goal or mission driving your creative journey?
No but there used to be a mission. Get signed, make money, please managers, labels, lawyers etc..
Now I am creative for me and if I am lucky, other people will like what I am doing.
I am signed to Code 213 Records and I’ve released two singles with the label. Both songs have charted all over the world. We have the next two singles lined up and ready to go! I should have an album out by the end of the year. Everyone releases singles now so they are more in demand.
I also produce live shows. I enjoy being behind the scene’s as well
I produce many types of live shows. I’ve been working with Sweet Baby Jai and we are producing shows under the name, Sweet Baby Jai Presents, The Sunset Music Series. We have sold out every show and we raise money so we can provide instruments for children that can’t afford them.
