We were lucky to catch up with Liz Bean recently and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Liz, thanks for joining us today. We’d love to start by getting your thoughts on what you are seeing as some the biggest trends emerging in your industry
The Biggest trends I’m seeing are more lived in looks. Such as balayage for Busy moms. And Fantasy Color for their teens.
Fades and beard trims for the husbands!
Shags and Wolfcuts are so in! Also 90s inspired layers and framing!
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
Hello! My name is Liz, dreamer and Now Owner of REVILO A Liz L Bean Salon!
I was born outside of DC the oldest of Four children. My earliest Memories were saving my lunch money to buy Braiding/ Hairstyle Books from Scholastic in first grade.
I Loved anything hair!
I hit a rough time in my life which delayed my dreams of going to hairschool. And I chose Vodka instead.
My first attempt at hairschool I was kicked out for just that.
Years later I tried again. I swept hair,
To working front desk just to be in the atmosphere! My demon of addiction separated me from my son Oliver. I began reading lots of books about success and positive mindset to keep myself sober and continue fighting for my son. I began doing hair full time at a high end salon downtown that really focused on guest experience and continued education to perfect our craft.
I loved all the classes! And being able to give my guest a look that would inspire them to find their confidence and conquer their dreams!
I traded addictions. I became addicted to learning and anything hair and anything to make my guests experience with me that much better!
Long story short my son and I were reunited. Shortly after I celebrated 6 years sobriety, my journey and my son inspired me to open Revilo.
Where I can Teach a team of aspiring hair artists to learn, set goals to achieve BIG Dreams!
GIVE great guest service and be able to support their families and live a comfortable life. Love what they do all while lifting up other men women and children.

Well? I think that’s it for now.:)
Let’s talk about resilience next – do you have a story you can share with us?
During my search, for a building. I drove around at night after working 12-14 hour days doing hair at a salon I was boothrenting from. to find for rent signs of spaces. I’d take pictures peek in windows of empty spaces and share on my social media. Lol I had one realtor laugh at me
Another tell me that there’s no way anyone would ever rent to me without a business loan.
I got turned down for multiple properties due to no loan, investor, low credit score, and low income history. Another landlord hung up on me after I said I wanted to open a hair salon and he replied they never succeed I’ve had three of them.”But I kept applying. And trying.
Finally I found a man that gave me a chance. And it’s in a GREAT neighborhood and after sharing my story he shook my hand and my sons and said , “ I can’t believe I’m doing this”.
It’s yours.
We rented on a handshake and 5 grand.
We often hear about learning lessons – but just as important is unlearning lessons. Have you ever had to unlearn a lesson?
So many lessons in the first year. I learned that camera systems are a must, contracts and do not let my heart get in the way of business. I also completely changed my business model of a booth renting salon to a commission salon.
