Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Liz August. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Liz, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. Alright, so you had your idea and then what happened? Can you walk us through the story of how you went from just an idea to executing on the idea
My entire business is built around the logistics of going from idea to execution. In 2015 I opened a professional organization company and had no idea what I was doing. I had seen an episode of Hoarders and thought, “I could do that!” I created a website, got some friends to let me organize their homes for free in exchange for photos, and I was on my way. I had no experience as an entrepreneur, quite the opposite actually as I was a middle school teacher. Now, 8 years later, my business has pivoted to virtual assistance and I have become a strategist for entrepreneurs. I call myself the bridge between their visionary ideas and execution because many of my clients are creatives that struggle with bringing their ideas to life. My strategy and my outsourcing team make it possible to finally get done the things clients have been unable to get done. It’s taken me a lot of research and work to figure out how to best set up online businesses and I credit my gumption, tech abilities, and amazing support of both my family, network, and coaches.

Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers
I’m Liz August from Worcester, MA and I own Simplify, Simplify an outsourcing agency of tech VAs.
I’ve simplified the businesses and lives of more than 100 coaches and online service providers, giving them back much-needed time and bandwidth. As a Business & Tech Strategist, I help my clients stay in their zone of genius with my one-stop shop for tech and admin support. My team and I are responsible for organizing, streamlining, and slaying the to-do lists of notable coaches, authors, and visionaries such as Lynne Twist from The Soul of Money Institute and Jenna Arnold, one of the organizers of the 2017 Women’s March.
Basically, I’m the “Get Shit Done Girl” for fempreneurs. What sets us apart is that we don’t just check off items on your to-do list. First, we strategize with you, which helps you avoid the pitfalls of delegating, and then we get done what you can’t or shouldn’t be working on, giving you the freedom to do what you do best.

Where do you think you get most of your clients from?
The majority of my clients come from referrals, and I think that is the best compliment I could ever receive. As I started to pivot from organizing to virtual assistance, I had one client that needed help with her online business. Thanks to her one Facebook post about how much I helped her, I got 5 new clients. It snowballed from there and I have not invested in ads or other marketing because I believe in the power of asking for referrals and doing a great job in order to get them.
We often hear about learning lessons – but just as important is unlearning lessons. Have you ever had to unlearn a lesson?
My family doesn’t have a single entrepreneur in it. We are all hard workers that stay with jobs as long as possible and prefer consistency. It was very hard to leave my salaried teaching career that I had worked so hard for. There are many times that I get concerned about the amount of money the business is bringing in and I remember the consistent paychecks and other benefits from a more typical job. But overall, I realize that is my fear talking and that I have created something out of nothing and can continue to do so with my hard work.
