Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Liz Adams. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Hi Liz, thanks for joining us today. Was there an experience or lesson you learned at a previous job that’s benefited your career afterwards?
I have learned a lot in this business so far. One big lesson I learned early on was not everyone has the same passion and motivation. There are two crucial parts to being an artist, the artistry and the business. An artist that is willing to treat their artistry as a business or at least understand there is a business side is going to find success.

As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
Growing up watching movies I always noticed the music and the impact it had on what I was feeling and I knew that I wanted to work with musicians since I wasn’t one myself. I grew up in Oklahoma City where there’s practically no music business scene.. however, if you’re stopping by there are definitely some great venues and bands I can recommend to check out. Before everything went remote I had no clue how I would break in to the industry and then abruptly everyone was working remotely. So I developed a plan, I decided to reach out to music companies all across the country. I landed an internship at Dala Records in New York City. I was ecstatic to have this opportunity! Then, I started managing a band in Oklahoma City and shortly after that connected with the co-founder of PREACH Records, Jay Cohen. I was recently promoted to Head of Operations and my role is to help the artists on our roster have a smooth release!

What’s been the most effective strategy for growing your clientele?
The most effective strategy for bringing artists on to the label is being a true partner, offering fair deals and catering the deal specifically to what each artist is looking for! Flexibility and short term deals to make sure the partnership is working for all is key.

How do you keep in touch with clients and foster brand loyalty?
Working closely and keeping in touch with the artists at the label is crucial during release cycles, whether it be planning releases, marketing strategies, or calling artists post-release. All of the little details are important and we’re always looking for innovative ways to personalize releases. We like to learn the story behind the song, project, or artist so we’re able to properly tell the story to our partners (including the dps like Spotify, Apple Music, etc.)
