We recently connected with Livvie Malviya and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, Livvie thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. What’s the backstory behind how you came up with the idea for your business?
I have been living in the US for the past 14 years. I am the recipient of Presidents Volunteer Service Award and Community Leadership, Entrepreneur Year of the Award. I work full time for the last nine years, currently working with one the best International Law Firms in the USA. I always had this deep passion for charitable work since college days. I strongly believe in trust-based philanthropy, supporting diversity in collective giving, and specifically helping to educate and inspire donors of color on the transformational impact of philanthropy in Austin communities. My first volunteering was at a Drug and Alcohol Rehab/Recovery center in Bhopal, MP state, India. When I moved to the US, I started volunteering vigorously for various non-profits some of the very prestigious ones are American Red Cross, Emergency Response Team in Fire Departments of Maryland & Texas, Texas Health & Human Services Commission (ODPC), Rodan and Fields Prescription for Change & Hospice caring in Maryland. My charity work focuses from grassroots to national level organizations.
I am also a contract-based, freelance Film Festival Director and Festival Programmer for four prestigious South Asian Film Festivals in the US & Canada for the last five years.
I have recently founded a non-profit based on empowering people to share their stories by creating inclusive space leading to inspiring and authentic indie films. The non-profit is called Austin South Asian Film Festival.
The astounding idea to start my very own Social Events company struck when I tried to hire an event decorator for my 40th birthday. I offered her the partnership to organize a ticketed event on the Boat for the Bollywood Dance Night and it was an instant hit, super successful event as it was outside the box idea. That kickstarted her career as I guided her and led me to start my own Event Company as well: Livvie Star Company. No one had done something like this before in Austin. Since I am cheerful & people’s person, I love to bring people & communities together through meetups, volunteering & organizing small scale events; I decided to keep my company as a Social Event company- we do not organize private events like wedding birthday parties. I want to keep this company as a very stylish, boutique style social event company where people mingle, make memories & have fun with food, drinks, friends & families! My company also produces short films in the US & other South Asian countries.

As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
We believe every event begins with a story and that there is a sublime connection between the mastery of logistics and the creation of astonishment.
We understand that breakthrough ideas are only as good as the discipline supporting them.
We organize high-profile, elite ticketed events such as galas, concerts, screenings and some free social and cultural events to support small businesses in Greater Austin & bring diverse communities together to promote cross-cultural understanding. We also organize trunk shows & fashion shows.
We offer a range of film festival management services on contract.
We have produced two short films so far, one of them was screened in a prestigious film festival.
We are very proud of great ideas we bring for people to enjoy that way supporting small, local businesses and in maintaining great work relationships with all our sponsors and supporters, clientele.
A tight-knit group of people in our team led by me specializes in bringing an element of surprise to the most elegant of events.
We serve as connectors, connecting the need to the service provider. Once you associate with us, it’s like a family. Organizing events is all about networking & leadership, currently helping over 80 new entrepreneurs to establish their businesses in various fields in Texas & Virginia.
How do you keep your team’s morale high?
I would highly suggest to keep things organized using technology, apps and other great organizational tool. You have to be super humble in asking help, favors, & to run a company. Try to involve as many team members as you can, to give them the sense of belonging. Inclusion is very important, respecting other people’s time, beliefs, religion is also very important when it comes to organizing event or running a company. Discipline comes first when you are a team lead, also I always belive in power of follow ups, team meetings, constantly stay in touch to keep things transparent, organized and easy going.
Any insights you can share with us about how you built up your social media presence?
Social media presence is all about showing your work but also giving credits to your team, clients, sponsors, vendors, photographers , videographers etc. Everybody loves when you post about your happy clients or about a successful event which involves lot of performers. Artists need recognition, reward & acknowledgment. Routine meaningful social media post is important, sharing fun and happy moments of your life is important too. I would highly recommend not to post negative comments as a post. When you are unhappy don’t take out frustrations on social media.
