We were lucky to catch up with Livio Ramondelli recently and have shared our conversation below.
Livio, appreciate you joining us today. Earning a full time living from one’s creative career can be incredibly difficult. Have you been able to do so and if so, can you share some of the key parts of your journey and any important advice or lessons that might help creatives who haven’t been able to yet?
I’m very fortunate that the thing I enjoy doing the most, drawing and creating, are my full time job. I always hoped I’d be able to accomplish that, and thankfully that’s been able to happen. It’s a very enjoyable life for me personally to have a daily life where I work on the projects that I want to in a comfortable home studio environment. I think one of the real secrets of life is finding a way to get paid for what you’re truly interested in doing.

Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
I’m a professional illustrator who has been working since 2007. I was initially hired as a concept artist by the legendary artist Jim Lee. I worked for four years on the DC Universe MMO title for Sony/Wildstorm/DC Comics. After that, I became full-time freelance, primarily illustrating Transformers for IDW Publishing and exhibiting at comic conventions around the world.
I’ve also been fortunate enough to provide art for Google, Hasbro, BOOM! Studios, DC Comics, Image Comics and Legendary Comics.
I recently created my first ever original science fiction series, The Kill Lock, also published by IDW. I also regularly do commissions for private art collectors.

What can society do to ensure an environment that’s helpful to artists and creatives?
The best way to support artists is both by financially buying their work, and also spreading the word about it. If you enjoy something that we’ve made, tell someone you think would enjoy it. And also following us on social media and commenting with your thoughts on our work is much appreciated as well.

Alright – so here’s a fun one. What do you think about NFTs?
Personally, I’m not interested in them. I’m not an expert on the environmental effects, so I can’t comment on that aspect. But my main focus is creating really quality work to the best of my ability, and NFTs feel a little too much of a gimmick to me. But I won’t judge someone for finding value in them.
