We were lucky to catch up with Livia McDonald recently and have shared our conversation below.

Hi Livia , thanks for joining us today. Can you walk us through some of the key steps that allowed you move beyond an idea and actually launch?

The moment I started was the moment I allowed myself to develop the courage to share my thoughts and opinions. On a whim I decided to download this podcast app and I would just speak to myself in it random stuff. The randomness that chose to come out automatically was encouragement; motivation, uplifting words, enlightenment, spirituality, and other things within that realm. It started off with just using my voice as art, and then I got a suggestion from someone to do videos, and then I started to create videos and it just felt right. It actually took me a long time to get my YouTube up and going because I was nervous about the video part. Seeing yourself talk instead of just hearing it was really different for me so I dabbled with that in and out for like a year and then a year later I officially started my YouTube and kept consistent with it and became comfortable in it. I remain trying uncomfortable things, but became comfortable with the on camera part of it and that’s when I really started to go all in.

Livia , love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?

I’m definitely someone who values my audience’s emotions, I want to be able to uplift you or motivate you to go through whatever chapter of your life you may find yourself in as well as give you knowledge as to how you can create a moment for yourself to aid in your overall elevation. I feel like my Youtube is really a safe space where individuals can come to nourish their souls and begin their healing or continue their healing. My Youtube is somewhere where individuals can come to really focus on themselves and feel better afterwards or just to have a conversation. Sometimes my content is just a random topic of conversation that serves as a reminder for someone or sparks a new idea for someone.

What’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative in your experience?

The most rewarding aspect is knowing that you’re making a positive impact in someone’s life honestly, like when I see someone’s comment like this made me do this and it’s like a positive thing I get so excited and I’m so happy for them and I’m so blessed to know that my art is positively changing someone’s life. I love knowing my art is it’s making them feel something, or that it’s educating them in some way, shape, or form. I feel so blessed to know that are individuals around the world, listening to my words, feeling heard, and forming a meaningful connection with me.

Can you tell us about a time you’ve had to pivot?

Well, I feel like I’ve done so many pivots, I actually just did a new pivot the other day. I feel like when you’re a business person utilizing your creativity you can do a lot of pivots because you’re always getting new ideas that work. I actually started off dancing on TikTok and put encouraging words on the dance videos. It was just too much so then I shifted out of that and I just started putting words on the screen, then I shifted out of that and I started to do the podcast, then I shifted out of that and made it into video, then I did my podcast and YouTube at the same time and now I’m actually making it an entire change with my podcast a new name and I’m rebranding it and I’m really heavily focusing it on my YouTube while also bringing back my podcast so there’s a lot going on, a lot of pivoting, but it’s all worth it. I I feel like as a creative you constantly pivot while remaining consistent. It’s like you’re always on the lookout and thinking about ways that you can elevate your craft.
