We were lucky to catch up with Liv Teixeira recently and have shared our conversation below.
Liv, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. Almost all entrepreneurs have had to decide whether to start now or later? There are always pros and cons for waiting and so we’d love to hear what you think about your decision in retrospect. If you could go back in time, would you have started your business sooner, later or at the exact time you started?
I started my business in 2017 when I was a fresh graduate from Keene State College. I had a passion for health and wellness, personal development and helping others. I was inspired and motivated to make it my career. If I could have done my business my entire life – trust me, I would have! But I believe in divine timing and I had a series of fortunate events that led me to wanting to create a business in 2017 and to be capable to do so. From that point on I put my head down, became an ICF aka certified coach, formulated my legal entity and opened up my *virtual* doors, I have never looked back! It has been 8 years and it has been the greatest thing that has happened to me. I truly love helping people create massive change in their lives. There’s nothing I love more than seeing someone have their “ah-ha” moment that changes everything!

Liv, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
I coach people who want to live their absolute greatest life possible. I coach people that want to live an exceptional life and those who don’t want to settle. I coach people who demand better for themselves and want to see themselves progress into the best version of themselves. I work with people who are passionate about health and wellness, personal development and self mastery. Meaning, I help people shift perspective, define goals, look within and make better decisions. I coach people in groups and one-on-ones.
I do this through my signature 3-step process. The first phase of my work is all about defining the goal and the vivid vision, aka your dream life. Then I take you into the second phase which is figuring out what gets in the way. In this phase we uncover your limiting beliefs and all of the things that are holding your back from achieving the things you truly want in life. In the third phase of my coaching I create a bulletproof Blueprint Plan that details how you’re going to accomplish your goals. I work with people through breakups and death and trauma but I also work with people to create fulfilling relationships, thriving businesses and overall impactful and aligned careers.
What sets me apart is my ability to blend the deep emotional work with the very structured, tangible, strategic work. I like to dig deep and figure out what pulls at someone strings on a deep psychological level. I also like to formulate and create strategies and plans as to how they will achieve their goals after accounting for their personality type, intrinsic motivators and more.
I truly believe the thing I am most proud of is my last two years of business. After covid, I moved states and my business kind of took a hit. It was humbling and scary all at the same time but that time taught me a lot about perseverance, putting my head down and making things work. It was also a time where I had to ask myself if this was really what I wanted to do for the rest of my life? My answer was heck yes! (idk if I can swear lol). I love coaching people. I love drastically improving people and systems and anything else I can get my hands on! What makes me so proud of this recent realization is that I think it is something my mom would be very proud of. My mom passed when I was 19 years old from breast cancer. I think she would be so happy to know that I have fought an uphill battle to do something I love. I think she’d be proud that no matter what happened, I didn’t give up. I think shed be proud that I am doing honorable work that makes a difference in the lives of others. I think she would be proud because I fought to pursue my dream even when things were hopeless.

What’s been the best source of new clients for you?
The best source of new clients is simply doing a great job with the old ones. I think good business spreads through communities, friends, work associates and platforms. I have delivered a lot of helpful content, via my podcast A Liv Teixeira Production. I believe that value and the desire to help brings people knocking at your door. I have a lot of business through referrals as well. When you go above and beyond for people they want to share your work and your value with their circles. Both their professional circles and their personal circles. When you improve someone’s life they want the closest people to them to be able to experience it as well! I love what I do and the best source of new clients, in my opinion, is by being authentically yourself and driving to make lasting change in the lives of the people who choose to work with you.

Learning and unlearning are both critical parts of growth – can you share a story of a time when you had to unlearn a lesson?
Early in my coaching career, I had to learn (surprisingly lol) that I am not always right. I used to be very opinionated and sure that I had all the answers. I was the oldest daughter raised by an extremely strong woman and that kind of comes with the territory. I also have a very strong intuition about people and things. But I have learned over time that it’s better to be curious than to always be right. Being right doesn’t necessarily make for better outcomes in friendships relationships or even working with clients. Instead of assuming I know the answer, now a days I find myself asking a lot questions and being genuinely curious.
What makes me a really good coach is my ability to get the clients “why”. It’s my ability to dig deep and find the reasons behind what they do and what they believe. It all comes from asking really powerful questions. If you assume you know the answers to a question, you dont even bother asking it. You rob yourself and that person of uncovering the truth in their honest answer. If you assume what a person thinks, what they feel and why they act a certain way you rob yourself of the real answers. You settle for a projected belief.
All of my success in coaching has come from being inquisitive about things instead of being sure of them. I think there is strength in being able to explore an idea and unpack it without judging it or making decisions based on assumptions. It’s a lesson and a habit I have learned over time and one that has made me a better partner, friend and coach.
