Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Liv Bailey. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Alright, Liv thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. We’d love to hear about when you first realized that you wanted to pursue a creative path professionally.
I knew I wanted to pursue a creative path from a very early age, probably since elementary school if I’m being honest. I was always itching to do something visually creative, it interested me more than any other topic that was taught in school. It always changed what I wanted to be, however, Especially at a young age, I didn’t know the extent of what the jobs entailed, I just knew I wanted to do something creative. Even into high school, I changed my direction every few months. I thought of graphic design, storyboarding, video editing, Visual effects, and animation, but ultimately I landed in the realm of illustration. Even though I found myself in illustration, It still took me up until halfway into college to know my direct path in this specific field in which I wanted the direction of my art to take off.
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
My name is Liv Bailey! I’m a freelance illustrator and designer currently based in Savannah, Georgia with a focus in the publication industry! My art is in the realm of editorial and advertisement where I focus on women’s issues, mental health, and nature! My work primarily includes female figures and floral elements that have a light and airy feel to it. I’m inspired by the art nouveau movement and early English printmakers!
Is there mission driving your creative journey?
One goal that I have in my creative journey is to have at least one person have an emotional reaction when looking at my work. Wether it be happy, sad, or a mix of emotions all at once. I want people to feel moved by my work in one way or another. I want my illustrations to help the narrative of a story or article and have that visual element help people understand that story better, I want my work to help people empathize with those around them and hope one day that at least one person can look up to me and my art as I do to my mentors and inspirations now.
What’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative in your experience?
The most rewarding aspect of being an artist and a creative is the amount of connections I can have. Since diving more into my creative career the amount of people I have met from all over the world has been incredible! It has let me hear other people’s stories, gain new perspectives, and have a different outlook on life altogether. I have gotten to travel abroad and meet people in the industry I never thought I would have before. My connections have given me the courage to speak for myself and try new opportunities that I don’t think I would have before. My connections give me advice, suggestions, and inspirations that are invaluable and I wouldn’t trade any of it for the world. My connections have expanded and enhanced my creative perspective, and have made me a more empathetic and compassionate person, for which I am forever grateful for.
