We were lucky to catch up with Little Mx.bunny recently and have shared our conversation below.
Little , thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. What’s been the most meaningful project you’ve worked on?
When I started performing I knew I always wanted to perform at a big show with a big name but I never thought it would happen so soon in my career and even a couple months out it still feels like an absolute dream.
In March 2024 while scrolling through tour dates for the quickly rising pop star, Chappell Roan, I happened see that her website included a Google form. This Google form was a call for drag artists from all over the country to send in an audition form for a chance to perform as a Pre-Show to her concert. At the time I truthfully was feeling pretty low in my career getting nervous that I wasn’t doing enough to be see or taken seriously in my craft. Dispite these feelings I put my fears aside and put in an application anyway.
After not hearing anything for over a month I had assumed that I wasn’t picked and moved in to avoid those icky feelings that come with rejection. Two weeks before the concert I got an email from Chappell Roan’s touring team congratulating me for getting picked to open for her tour stop in Buffalo, NY. The icing on top of this whole cake was that the team specifically asked if I could feature my feather fan dancing since it stood out to them. To know that not only did my work as a whole speak to one of my favorite artists but she also loved my feather dancing that I had worked so hard on meant the world.
In about a week I build a brand new act to a whole new song. Then the day of got to share my craft with a crowd of 6000 people. The crowd was so loving and their energy is something that I will never forget. I will also never forget getting to share a stage with one of my favorite artists as she is growing in her own career.
Little , love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
I’m Little Mx. Bunny, the draglesque sensation sweeping the nation out of Rochester, NY. I showcase my talents not only as a burlesque dancer but also as a drag performer on stages like The Rapids Theatre, The Palace Theatre, Geva Theatre, and the celebrated Roar Night Club. My presence is a fusion of glamour, camp, and sensuality, bringing a unique blend of allure to the audience.
As a Black, plus-size, and queer performer, I defy stereotypes and boldly assert that sexiness knows no bounds. My performances are a testament to this, showing that anyone can exude allure and captivate hearts. My aim is to leave audiences yearning for more while striving to make the world a better place, one dazzling act at a time. With each performance, my artistry aims to break barriers and foster a more inclusive and accepting world—one that celebrates diversity and empowerment, making a difference one “boob” at a time.
For you, what’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative?
I’ve been on the stage in some capacity since I was 11 years old. Bouncing between doing musicals and plays. Burlesque and Drag were always a deep interest of mine but I knew I couldn’t join in yet because I was too young to get into bars. Though, something that was true back then when I was performing shakespeare that is has only grown more true is that the most rewarding part of my craft is being able to intimately know the effect of my art on the audience.
When doing a play or musical there’s normally an invisible fourth wall that means that the actors on stage don’t normally interact with the audience. Unless there’s an emergency the audience’s actions don’t effect the story. And at the end of the show the audience leaves without giving much feedback to the cast other than claps at the end of the show. With draglesque the audience is an integral part of the performance. Their cheers, their joy, their reactions, energy, and excitement to what I’m doing on stage plays a huge part in how I perform on stage. And at the end of each show it’s normal for performers to come out and chat with the audience. This means that I’m able to know what my audience thought of my work. Often times I get to learn how much seeing someone that represents a person like them means to their heart. Those are the comments that on hard days come back into my mind and remind me why I do what I do.
Have you ever had to pivot?
While I was in my first year of performing I was also around three years since coming out as non-binary. For my that means that I feel comfortable expressing any gender but I normally sit between feminine and androgynous. Early in my journey as Little Mx.Bunny I focused mostly on creating a very traditional burlesque persona. While I had fun on stage and felt good i never felt 100% confident. This was because I was constantly worried that I was performing was a ‘woman’ incorrectly.
In pursuit of trying to really hone in who Little Mx.Bunny was I reached into my old inspirations and did extensive research on artist who have combined both burlesque and drag. Thankfully there is a long history of draglesque artists to learn from and gain the courage to combine the two myself. Since then my stage presence and performance quality has grown. I feel so much more confident while on stage in a way I never have before. This combining has also helped make me a stand out in my local nightlife scene since my aesthetic and acts that I bring are unlike anyone else.
