We were lucky to catch up with Litsa Spanos recently and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Litsa, thanks for joining us today. Being a business owner can be really hard sometimes. It’s rewarding, but most business owners we’ve spoken sometimes think about what it would have been like to have had a regular job instead. Have you ever wondered that yourself? Maybe you can talk to us about a time when you felt this way?
Good question! I’ve been a gallerist and art consultant for 30 years. Owning an art gallery is not for the faint of heart. It requires tenacity, hard work and long hours. You make many mistakes along the way, but the many rewards you receive outweigh all the negatives that being an entrepreneur bring. My talent is being able to understand an artists’ mentality, yet work with clients efficiently. I love both equally.
There have been times where I’ve asked myself what it would feel like to have a 9-5 and a regular paycheck (911, the market crash and pandemic), but I always come back to my passion and that’s art. I wake up every day energized about the day ahead and enjoy what I do every day (well, most days!)

Litsa, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
Hi everyone! I’m an art consultant and art dealer working in the coolest art gallery ever! I converted a popcorn machine factory into a 13,000 sf art gallery a little over three years ago. We showcase contemporary, living artists and currently work with over 200 very talented individuals. It’s hard to imagine, but we have over 1000 pieces of art (paintings, sculpture, photographs, mixed media, glass and ceramics) in our inventory. Even though the space is large, it has niches and areas for our clients to wander through for an inspirational experience. There’s even an infinity room in the center of the gallery with lights, mirrors and music. The space is so unique that besides all the events we host, we also rent it as a venue for corporate events, non profit fundraisers and many, many other gatherings. It brings me joy to see the look on people’s faces when they enter. It’s always a WOW moment.

Let’s talk about resilience next – do you have a story you can share with us?
My family immigrated from Greece to the states when I was only three years old. Our journey has been one of sacrifice, resilience and immense joy. My parents always said, “Do what you love and the money will come.” That’s been my motto for my entire life!

Can you tell us about a time you’ve had to pivot?
Sure! During COVID, many of our corporate clients put a hold on the art projects/purchases we had in place for them. We couldn’t deliver or install anything for a long time. But, we decided to pivot and focus on residential work with private collectors. That became the backbone of the business for during that time.
