Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Lisa White. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Lisa, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today What do you think matters most in terms of achieving success?
Portraying a receptive outlook has been one of my pillars to success. Understand there is a space to develop. I’ve learnt to be open-minded while learning new things.. Success is also dependent on practicing and perfecting your art.
Lisa, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
I started the art of decorating treats and cakes in 2012. I started it as an activity to help me fight against anxiety. Over the years, it started becoming a passion rather than a hobby. After delivering my second child, I knew it’s the perfect time to pursue my passion for decorating cakes and treats as a business. During this time, I started having second thoughts as many people were into the business and I didn’t know how to stand out in such a crowded field. I decided to take classes and practiced until I was confident to handle orders from customers. I love my clients as they give me the more confidence to continue growing my business. I ensure anything I produce is always the best and has my name on it to attract the attention of more future clients.
As I progress with my business, I want to venture into weddings. I love handling treat tables for weddings. Knowing that someone wants my business to be part of their special day motivates me to press on. I am grateful to have a few weddings booking my services in my first year in business. I am excited and ready to see what the future holds in store for my business.
Let’s talk about resilience next – do you have a story you can share with us?
Barely six months into my business, I had to shut down my operations for two months as I was undergoing surgery. During this time, I rarely posted on my social media platforms; hence I wouldn’t take in a new client. Everything started to slow down, and I felt I had made the wrong move in opening my business. After a while, I started developing new products and regularly posting them on social media. With consistency, I was able to book three weddings. Despite times looking hard, I continued to push through.
What’s worked well for you in terms of a source for new clients?
In the initial stages of my business, I used Instagram as a platform for growth. I ensured I was posting regularly to display my work to potential clients. The platform went a long way in enabling me to attract new clients. Potential clients trusted me online and let me plan their parties, weddings, and baby showers via the platform.
