We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Lisa Swimmer. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Lisa below.
Hi Lisa, thanks for joining us today. So, naming is such a challenge. How did you come up with the name of your brand?
The gifts shop started in renting a space in a Native American gallery to generate revenue items that sell for under $100. The art gallery was all high end art by local artist.
My family brother had previously sold Native American art as a cultural leader and donated gift shop boxes with the Swimmer collection design.
Thinking outside the box my design started by visiting local libraries and maker spaces to create art by laser.
My design on laser then grew to jewelry design..and other interesting textile to create custom design for promotion work on movies and corporate branding.

Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
My name is Lisa Swimmer a Cherokee artist and business owner, entrepreneur I sell gift shop items that are mostly custom designed such as gift boxes jewelry and other Native American inspired items.
My family is active in the Cherokee community in Oklahoma and growing up I was taught to represent Native Americans in a positive way. I have worked as a professional model in NYC..and my daughter travels to Santa Fe to model..art and fashion is represented in my design work.
My gifts are custom to include the Native American name and design mostly to represent and promote the passion or energy for the customer.

Let’s talk about resilience next – do you have a story you can share with us?
My gift shop business started in a gallery then I relocated to a high end retail location but have found working remote and traveling to shows and promoting my business on social media to be more profitable and enjoyable.

Can you talk to us about how you funded your business?
Starting my business I had no capital most of my business grew from reselling wholesale and benefitting from a 60 day line of credit and having 5 to 700 gift boxes donated.
My involvement in the community of fashion and art has evolved and assisted with retaining my client base.
