We were lucky to catch up with Lisa Roberts recently and have shared our conversation below.
Lisa, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today Setting up an independent practice is a daunting endeavor. Can you talk to us about what it was like for you – what were some of the main steps, challenges, etc.
I became a nurse in 1994 and thought I would always work in a hospital. I love to learn new things, so one of my co-workers and I decided to take a class to learn how to administer botox and filler. Little did I know at the time, that one weekend would change my career path and change my life. That was in 2019. And just one short year later, in the midst of Covid, I left the hospital setting for good to start injecting full time. In 2021, I opened my own place of business. I started small with just injectables, facials, IV therapy, and chemical peels. A few months later my daughters who are aestheticians and laser techs joined me and we slowly began to add laser treatments to our practice. We have since expanded and offer a broad array of treatments for wellness and beauty. I can honestly say, it is the most exciting time in my life to continue to grow the business and work alongside my daughters. The only thing I think I would have done differently would be to create a business plan when I first started and worked the plan as I grew.
My advice to anyone considering opening their own practice…build your plan, get your funding, and don’t be afraid to take the risk. It’s hard work, but it is so worth it!
Lisa, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
Esthetic Brilliance LLC was founded in 2019 by Dr. Lisa Roberts. Lisa is a nurse who has always had a calling to help others. She has been a nurse for 29 years and realized that her most rewarding experiences came when she could help others look and feel better about themselves. In February of 2021, Lisa opened her first location at Salon Boutique Suites in Surprise, Arizona.
In April of 2021 Lisa was joined by her daughters, Lindsey and Lauren who are both Certified Laser Technicians and Licensed Aestheticians with the State of Arizona. Lisa and her daughters work collaboratively creating optimal treatment outcomes for each client. Together, we have created a family run boutique style med spa that enhances your outside beauty and keeps you well on the inside.
Lisa always has an eye on the future for continued growth. We are always adding new services, new products, and new devices! We invite you to stop in and experience all that we have to offer! We pride ourselves in creating meaningful relationships with our clients, providing excellent outcomes and we will treat you like one of our own family!
Do you think you’d choose a different profession or specialty if you were starting now?
If I could go back in time, I would not change my profession. I would still want to be a nurse. However, hindsight being 20/20 when I completed my Doctorate Degree my intention was to teach. Now I wish I had become a nurse practitioner. But, my motto is “it’s never too late” so I am once again contemplating going back to school for just that.
Training and knowledge matter of course, but beyond that what do you think matters most in terms of succeeding in your field?
Training and knowledge is important in doing what I do, because after all they are considered medical procedures. However, to succeed you also need to be able to help your clients feel comfortable around you and build a rapport with them. What I love is that I remember clients and stories and they remember mine as well. We connect over those conversations and it’s always like visiting with a friend when they come to see me.
