We were lucky to catch up with Lisa Reyes recently and have shared our conversation below.
Lisa, appreciate you joining us today. How’s you first get into your field – what was your first job in this field?
I had just completed a Kundalini teacher training program and I was doing sound healing on the side. One of my friends from teacher training worked in the recovery world. One day she calls me up and says, “hey, we just lost our yoga teacher at this residential detox facility, do you want to take over this weekly class?” I said, “sure!” When I showed up to the rehab facility, I was met by a very large, scary, angry man. I said cheerily, “I’m here for the yoga class!” He gets in my face and says, “F*uck yoga, f*uck YOU!” I wanted to run out of there as fast as possible with tears streaming down my face but there was some force that kept me there. I looked into his eyes and these words just came out, “would you like to relax?”. He thought about it for a minute and said yes. I told him and the other 5 men to lay down. Luckily I had all of my sound healing instruments in my car. I came back in and gave them a sound bath. At the end of the session I looked at the (previously angry) man’s face and he had melted into a marshmallow of pure peace and serenity. That was the moment that I realized that sound healing was desperately needed in treatment facilities. All of the clients were begging me to come back everyday, that was the birth of my business.
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
I am a sound healing practitioner. My core business is working in various drug/alcohol/mental health facilities in and around Los Angeles. I do sound healing sessions, teach yoga, meditation, coaching and breath work. I also work with a company called The Holistic Recovery that provides private, in home detox services. I offer private sound healing sessions (not in the recovery world) as well as group events that range from bachelorette parties to moon circles. I work with people from all walks of life. My clientele includes individuals straight out of prison, professional athletes, high level CEO’s, and celebrities. For me, the light I see in each person is the exact same, no matter what their “label’ might be.
I feel like my approach is different from others because everything I do is based on my intuition. I do not usually do things in the traditional way, I have always been sort of a rebel. My intention is to assist my clients in remembering who they are at the soul level. I help them to shed the layers of nonsense that are accumulated through this life journey. My gift is to shine the light and be a mirror to their Truth.
I’m very exctied to announce that in 2024 I will be adding Spinal Energetics to my offerings. This is a cutting edge healing modality that can be done in person or remotely.
Learning and unlearning are both critical parts of growth – can you share a story of a time when you had to unlearn a lesson?
The biggest lesson that I have learned in business is that my path is not linear and does not have to look like anyone else’s. I had envisioned being a successful yoga instructor but that was not meant to be my journey. Yoga did lead me to my soul’s work but it would not end up being on the main stage. I created a business that no one else was doing at the time. I started doing sound healing before it was even called that. Back then we only had gongs, so we did gong baths. As time went on, I added more sacred instruments to my sessions. It all evolved organically. There were times when I tried to push the sound healing business into a direction that I saw others being successful in. Sometimes it looked more glamorous “over there”. Ultimately, the lesson was and always is to tune in to my inner knowing, here the path is always clearly illuminated. I have learned to trust this and know that it is more than okay to blaze my own unique path, it is actually crucial.
Training and knowledge matter of course, but beyond that what do you think matters most in terms of succeeding in your field?
In my experience, I think that succeeding in my field requires a constant practice of self reflection and a deep commitment to spiritual growth. On top of that, you must be responsible and consistent. Show up and give your very best every single time. Do what you say you are going to do and then always add a little extra magic. When you show up with an open heart and pure intentions, the Universe opens doors for you that you could not even imagine.
