We recently connected with Lisa Quow and have shared our conversation below.
Lisa , thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. Let’s kick things off with your mission – what is it and what’s the story behind why it’s your mission?
Our mission statement expresses the need for spreading warmth throughout the globe; “ Warming the globe”. On the surface it fits our business because we have a candle line however, it’s more to it than that. Our vision for this business is to shine light on being kind, warm & loving towards others whether that is through our products or just a simple encounter. So, warming the globe is simply sharing the warmth we all possess within us towards others.
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
My name is Lisa Quow, originally from New York City, but moved out to Jacksonville Florida. Our family owned business begun as a simple hobby back in 2019, it was just a fun task to do while in the house with the kids. However, when 2020 hit it became a safe haven from the madness that we had to face in the world. Being in the medical field there was a desperate need for self care balance & creating fit the mold perfectly. As my family and I ventured in this new direction we met lovely people who were encouraging and shared warmth and love towards us. We participated in various local pop ups in and around Jacksonville. The love was immensely received from perfect strangers who felt the need to push us further by their continued support. In the year 2021 we set up shop in one of Jacksonville local mall at a booth and was yet received with further support. The month of May that year was one of our busiest months; moms and daughters alike were shopping around for items to depict their love they had for one another. We went on to create a single/couple class where clients were able to create their very own candle from scratch with our assistance. The demand to learn this craft caught the attention from a few, but we were not equipped to entertain large groups. After several months at our mall booth we finally decided that a bigger space was necessary. We were fortunate to locate a space within Murray hill, Jacksonville FL at the end of 2022. The community has been very welcoming and now we can accommodate large groups of 12 to 20 participants in our candle making class along with rentals for event’s & celebrations. With the inclusion of our unique blends candles we also curate: body butters/ soaps/ hair & body oils along with many other self care items. We are ultimately proud of being a veteran owned family business and being able to share the love and joy we harness through our products.
Alright – let’s talk about marketing or sales – do you have any fun stories about a risk you’ve taken or something else exciting on the sales and marketing side?
As the “everything” person who wears many hats, marketing being one, it can get rather difficult to juggle responsibilities. However, that has never been a factor to stop me. Social media is a tricky beast and can come with many failed woes. Whether that is from paid ads with no sales or posting about your business with very little interaction. My advice on this subject is to try to see what works, when you have mastered that area rinse and repeat. I typically set a goal quarterly for where I would like the business to be and focus on that. By doing such; it gives you a tangible attainable goal. We have received various sales via social media by just continuing to engage with clients and sticking to the set goal. One perfect example which is fresh in my mind is when a social media friend became a client because of a comment we made on her post. It was a simple comment that just complimented her on her aesthetics all the while suggesting that our product would fit perfectly. She responded with a smile then about 2 weeks later an order was received from her stating she feels that our candle was the missing piece. I was simply over the moon that a simple statement such as I had made was received so well to turn into a sale. So, it is important to continue to engage with everyone respectfully of course!
Can you tell us the story behind how you met your business partner?
My business partner is the reason I push as hard as I do. He is thoughtful, caring & supportive. Not to mention he is my husband. This man has been my #1 supporter from the kitchen to now our storefront. I have known him for over 20 years but feels like eternity. He typically likes to stay behind the scenes and direct, however any chance he gets to market our business or place my creativity on a pedal stool he does it. I am extremely grateful to have such a great support system.
